oyster eggs? phytoplankton? cyclopezze? just throwing stuff out there.
im thinking about making some homemade food using eric bournemans recipe, anyone else want some? We could make a large amount and just split it. It would be cheaper and better then buying from the store.

30mini
11/08/2006, 10:13 AM
I may be up for that! I need to get some Cyclopeeze or Oyster eggs so that I can feed my corals!

30mini
11/08/2006, 10:14 AM
Another split... it's been a while!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 10:16 AM
yeah it took a bit for this split....if i find it, other that yeah, why not!

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 10:18 AM
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee split. i just got some oyster eggs and i can tell when i put it in the tank. feeding tentacles come out pretty fast on the favia and candycane. other sps polyps are out anyways but they prob come out farther. im sure there all eating it as it passes by. With the cyclopezze you can see the polyps actually catching it, its pretty cool.
chris i would hold off on adding any extra food till the phosphates are gone.

30mini
11/08/2006, 10:25 AM
Yea, I'm rarely feed anyways b/c of how small the clowns are. I think I feed 3 times a week or so! And they eat all of the cube of Formula II, so they are good after that for a few days. Plus, there's a ton of pods in my tank, so if they want a snack, they can eat those!

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 10:31 AM
sounds good, hopefully the ro water will help level your tank out quickly :) although nothing good happens quick so im sure it wont happen to fast. This might be of intrest to you, when i started using rodi water my chaeto stalled a little and slowed down. Im not sure if it finally caught up or there was something else limiting it. I read about randy using iron suppliment for it and it really helped. Im thinking my tap has some iron in it. So if it seems to stop you might want to get some iron and try that.

30mini
11/08/2006, 10:33 AM
Yea, I know that Jacks carries Iron, so if it stalls, I'll get some of that, and just add a capfull every once in a while! I have noticed a decrease in the microalgea growth in my tank. It's actually starting to recede a little bit!

30mini
11/08/2006, 10:33 AM
Ryan, I found a Rainbow Monti frag for $80. It's only 1", and it's from Atlantis Aquarium

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 10:59 AM

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 10:59 AM

30mini
11/08/2006, 11:00 AM
Yea... but he said he lost his! I'll see if I can find it from somewhere else. I looked on Frags.org, but didn't find much

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 11:09 AM

If you need help, let me and Ryan know!! We work for frags!!

30mini
11/08/2006, 11:30 AM
And Ryan, you couldn't run for Pres. b/c you haven't attended 9 or 12 meetings, and haven't been a paid member for 12 months! That was a big event that went on... trust me!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 11:30 AM

11/08/2006, 11:42 AM
Chris just withdrew from running!! WOW! Total respect for him... I think he would have made a great Pres. for the club!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 11:44 AM
Why did he pull out, i dont know the whole story

30mini
11/08/2006, 11:44 AM
It's a long one! There was a lot of mud slinging!! hang on, I'll copy what he said.

30mini
11/08/2006, 11:45 AM
To whom it may concern,

When I decided to run for president I had some ideas for the club. I talked to most of the people that attend the meetings and it seemed like those people wanted to see the same things I did. I love this club and so does my daughter Mariah. She has been a paid member for several months and has been to most of the membership meetings with me. I never intended to cause the club to split or to bring negativity to the web. I apologize for my part in all of the drama that has occurred here lately.

Effective immediately I am withdrawing from the elections as well as resigning from treasurer. Thanks to everyone that has supported me in this election but there can be no good come from this. There have already been accusations against me and my family that are simply not true. Even if I did win I fear there would be more drama. I have been accused of “fixing votes” and such. This was not about “winning” something to me. It was about wanting to serve this club and the members.

We will continue to attend the meetings and be active members of this club. I hope that all of the new PAID members will be at the meetings also. I don’t want anyone to have hard feelings. I hope we can continue to have a good time at the meetings as we always have. See ya November 17th.

Thanks for time,

Chris Bell

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 11:47 AM
Ouch, soulds like someone would be a sore loser (not chris) someone else...

30mini
11/08/2006, 11:48 AM
Well, you don't really know the whole of everything said. I think he is doing the right thing, and wants to better the club. There is a lot of other factors that may have come to him deciding this!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 11:50 AM
I dont know, sounds like he got bullied out of the position! But thats an outsiders point of view!

30mini
11/08/2006, 11:52 AM
He may have... but I don't want to jump to any conclusions on anything. Chris is a good guy, and I think that he really does have good ideas and intentions for the club. The other people out there that think other wise said some nasty stuff. The whole board is really aggravated about things said! It's almost like the club split down the middle.

30mini
11/08/2006, 11:53 AM
But, Chris was also saying some stuff that may have been taken wrongly. Even Andrew said something bad... but later retracted it b/c he knew it wasn't true!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 11:54 AM
oh well......what comes of comes of it

lovethereefer
11/08/2006, 12:02 PM
well that was a slip on my part, i didnt mean to get anyone mad at me, i think i get along with almost everyone on the site, (except jenn for some reason) i didnt know that chris left until right then, humm that sucks

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:02 PM
Yea, it's been a crazy election!

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:03 PM
Yea, I'm not too sure on Frankie. I don't really know him at all!

yeah i am sick of the whole election thing as well, too much drama for me

lovethereefer
11/08/2006, 12:05 PM
thats a sweet acro but it looks photoshopped a little bit, but keeping those colors will be tough for whoever has it

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:07 PM
Yea, they said that it's probably due to heavy actinic lighting, and there was a guy that corrected the colors, and it turned real green on him. So, the colors were close to true in the first pic!

lovethereefer
11/08/2006, 12:08 PM
hummm, crazy whats out there. now i guess the only election left is for vp

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 12:08 PM
ryan, sounds pretty similar to bournemans food.

Check out the coral on the 3rd page of that thread too. Really amazing

Fusch13

Yeah everyone seems to say photoshop, but i will say...nice....put that on my must have list..lol jk

11/08/2006, 12:11 PM
did you ever get rid of the mantis chris?

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 12:17 PM
Yeah Chris got rid of him, but the woman who took it killed it!

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:18 PM
Yea, she killed him!! I was upset that she did so! Even my wife was! He was awesome to say the least!!!

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:19 PM
I still have the one that we saw at Scotts!! he's still in the same hole and won't come out! He must be eating pods a plenty!!

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:23 PM
Check this place out! Not a huge selection, but it looks like he has a buy 2 get 1 free deal going on!
www.cyber-reef.com

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 12:27 PM
yeah i briefly went on there and looked around

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 12:33 PM
:o she killed him on purpose? what happend?

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:34 PM
No, I'm not sure she killed him on purpose. She used rainwater for her tanks. I think there was something in the water that poisened him! She had another mantis, and that one did the same thing that walter did, so I think there is something in her rainwater that the mantids can't handle!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 12:38 PM
Rainwater....*******.....duh!

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 12:40 PM
lol, never would have thought about using rain water. I mean the air the rain falls through isnt exactly clean lol. Would be better off using conditioned tap water for sure.

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:40 PM
Yea, I know, but it supposedly was working well for her softy tanks! Wonder why she can't keep SPS???

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 12:44 PM
Haha....because once the SPS hit her rainwater, it would shrivel and dye....lol

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 12:45 PM
rain drop could have fallin threw the exhaust trail of a plane. bird poop, acid rain lol.

edit i cant type

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 12:45 PM
and SPS is also one of the frustating aspects of reef aquariums, Chris can vouch for this, how some SPS do great and some can turn on you in a second!

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:47 PM
Yea!! That's real frustrating!

30mini
11/08/2006, 12:49 PM
At least now I have some SPS that's doing real well!! With the exception of the Rose Mille

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 01:08 PM
digi still ok?
hopefully the water clears up in time for the millie

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:09 PM
Digi is doing awesome!! It's starting to encrust the base!

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:10 PM
The Valida was starting to encrust also when it got knocked off of Ryans plug. So, I'm hoping it starts to encrust for me too!! Only been a few days, so haven't really noticed anything, but hopefully I will soon!

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:11 PM
What is really sensitive is the Clam! It's still doing AWESOME, and has been fully open ever since I got him! He is the main guy I'm worried about along with the mille, but the clam seems to be doing great!

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 01:13 PM
i think clams can tollerate a little more nutrients in the water then some corals. Never owned a clam tohugh. Pretty sure it will filter some nutrients out too :)

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:16 PM
If it does, then that's sweet! He seems to be doing real well. I just took this picture on Monday. You can really see how well he is doing!
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g75/CHorwarth/DSCN0525.jpg

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:17 PM
And here's another one, but a little further out.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g75/CHorwarth/DSCN0526.jpg

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:18 PM
You can see the tubinaria in the Background... it's got full PE if you look real close!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 01:20 PM
Yeah i can see it, holy hair algae batman!

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:21 PM
Yea, I know! That rock had a little when I first got it in there, and it just bloomed when i put the 10K bulb on there!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 01:26 PM
Yeah dang light cycle sucks, two little fishies phosban reactor... ;)

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:26 PM
Or the 30mini phosban reactor that I'm working on!!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 01:27 PM
haha...wow never heard of that one, where can consumers buy it? lol

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:29 PM
It'll be online shortly. Only $40, but it doesn't include the pump or media!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 01:33 PM
hAHA

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:33 PM
I could make a killing, but this is already mass produced by sooo many others! It's just PVC with endcaps and threaded barb fittings. Add a sponge on each end to keep things where they whould be, and there ya go! Media in the middle of the sponges, pump pushing wather through! Basically the same idea as a UV, but w/o the twists

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 01:34 PM
yep, where were you when i bought mine..lol

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:36 PM
Well, I would much rather buy a prebuilt one, b/c it cuts out the pain of buying a pump and all that stuff... but I like the idea of less money being spent!

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:36 PM
I even asked Andrew about one!! Didn't follow through with it, but I at least inquired!

Fusch13
11/08/2006, 01:37 PM
yeah..Chris, do you think i should mount that bali in direct flow, or just leave it where it is?

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:39 PM
hmmmm.... idea just popped into my head!
What if I took the drain that I have now, added a reducer fitting (1" to 2") and put that after my union and have media inside of the 2" pipe coming down to the drain, have a 2" union, then a 2" to 1" reducer to go back into the drain. That way I KNOW that water is going through!

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:40 PM
I'd say leave it where it is for the time being. See what it does!! It's got some pretty good flow on it where it is at!

30mini
11/08/2006, 01:41 PM
now that I think about that idea... I don't like it soo much! I would have to turn off my return pump to replace media. It was a good idea till I thought about it

11/08/2006, 02:16 PM
man, you guys added 5 pages so far today - it is impossible to keep up!

re: the frag order - I appreciate the offer- right now the reef tank is in transition, so I'm going to hold off on new frags until it is settled into its new tank

I would love to see pix of the new stuff you get!

30mini
11/08/2006, 02:18 PM
Yea, I'll get some pics up when I recieve the package. It'll be next Friday!

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 02:46 PM
also chris you wouldnt be able to adjust the flow going through the phosban, drain could clog to :O

just got home so im looking for the other two frags i want from him. Can you guys post your lists again? dont want to many duplicates :D
How much was it for 4 each? dont feel like going back all those pages :D

So, they have the frame welded up to hold my light! They have to make the vertical holder for the actual light, but they have the three sided frame that will sit on top of the tank! It'll be done tomorrow. it's drilled, marked, and prepped for welding!! I'll get pictures of it when it gets put together!! I'm in the final stages!!

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 03:21 PM
are they doing this for you at your work ?
sounds pretty sweet.

30mini
11/08/2006, 03:21 PM
So, Kurt, I need about 15 gals of water made up! How much would you want for it?? I'll throw you a couple bucks

30mini
11/08/2006, 03:23 PM
Yea, they are doing it for me here at my job! They had some extra angle iron sitting around, so they welded me up a frame to sit on top, and there was some 3/4x1/4 plate that I got 16" of, and drilled a 9/16" hole for the rod to go through. In total, the light will sit around 8-10" off the water!

Kurt03
11/08/2006, 03:43 PM
lol no idea what i want for the water. you got some jugs? Your going to be eating alot of pretzles :D

you know if he has pics of these two?

also is the valida this guy is selling and the one ryan has the same?

30mini
11/08/2006, 03:47 PM
I think it's the same one Ryan has... but I'm not positive. Look at his website and see if you see any of those. He did say that there are some that he doesn't have pictures of, but we will not be dissappointed!

30mini
11/08/2006, 03:48 PM
How about $.20 a gallon? That would be $3.00 for 15 gallons!

30mini
11/08/2006, 03:49 PM
It may have to be in like 3 days worth of stuff!! B/c I may have to borrow that 5 gallon jug you have, and just bring it back to your place and fill it up after I get off

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 08:33 AM
When is your lease up? Yeah thats where i put in our house, zillow.com estimate is 222,000 but i then adjusted some stuff they had wrong, and it jumped to 230,000

30mini
11/09/2006, 08:35 AM
Our lease is up in July, but we have to give a 60 day notice of us leaving! So, that puts us in April that we have to give the notice of leaving!

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 09:59 AM
Whats on Saturday?

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:00 AM
I have to move my reef to satisfy the wife. The wall behind it is getting salt spray, and the floor under it is wet, so she wants me to move it over and away from the wall and put a tarp under it.

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 10:03 AM
get a piece of wall protection (plexi), fasten it to wall, that will get the salt spray.......easy wipe....for underneath, i would do the same.....all water hits plexi...what do you think?

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:06 AM
I have plexi, and I totally agree, but I still need help moving it

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 10:08 AM
I think i will be out sat :/ sunday i might be able to though

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:13 AM
Okay, well, I'll see if Ryan is free, and if I have to wait till Sunday, I will. I just have to satisfy the wife and move it

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 10:14 AM
but i dont have anything planned!

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 10:15 AM
whys it getting wet underneith anyways?

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:17 AM
There have been times that power has cut out, and the sump has ovefilled a little bit. That's the only reason! Sweet, Ryan, if you can come over and help, your more than welcome to bring the kids, and let them hang out with my wife while we move it!

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 10:23 AM
Yeah, should be no problem....i work for frags....haha joking!

Also, you might want to use a piece of 1/4" plywood with plexi over it, then fasten this to the floor, is it concrete floor, or wood?

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:25 AM
It's a second floor. and it's carpet! That's why we were thinking a tarp, and then the plexi over it!

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:25 AM
Allthough, the plywood would work well too!! Tarp/plywood/plexi/stand

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 10:30 AM
i wouldnt even use the tarp, the plywood base a bit larger with plexi over will help the overflow issue onto carpet, the tarp will only cause a moisture collector which would creat mold....if the carpet is stained, get some oxyclean, trust i can get any stain out with it....trust me...also another reason for no tarp, is the visual appeal..no tarp is a cleaner more visually clean look!

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:34 AM
Yea, good point! I have some particle board that was used for a water bed... think I could use that, or should I get some plywood?

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 10:35 AM
Particle board is fine, i would just paint it to seal it!

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 10:35 AM
can you fit your sump thing inside a larger container? or have something around it that can catch any water. I think you would be better off if you can solve the overflow problem then you dont have to worry about the bottom. is the overflow or the return syphoning to much water when the power goes off?
if it is then you either need to just raise the overflow or drill a syphon break in your return a little higher.

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:36 AM
Yea, I can get some Killz from my in-laws. Or, just buy a can tomorrow and cut/paint the wood tomorrow night.

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:37 AM
I need to drill a siphon break higher. The overflow stops pretty quick when the power goes out! It's the back siphon that causes it!! It's only happened once or twice, but it's had a good amount of water come out and onto the floor.

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:39 AM
That's the thing Kurt... I don't have a whole lot of room to fit anything else in there!! I want to run a remote sump and have it in my close like you do Kurt... but the wife isn't too keen on that! It would allow me to have a bigger return and such, but she doesn't want me to do it.

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 10:41 AM
do yo uhave s syphon break at all? Just drill it and be done with it. Tons easier then making a board to put under it, which will just make the water roll off farther out a get the carpet farther out wet.

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 10:41 AM
Well, the wife rules....lol

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:49 AM
I have one Kurt, it's just not high enough!! Probably not big enough either! What the wife wants, you have to do... trust me and Ryan on that!

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 10:50 AM
ryan, glad the epoxy isnt overflowing the skimmer. hopefully the turbos leave it alone long enough. it says it hardens in 20min, full strength in 24hr.

catalyst
11/09/2006, 10:52 AM
umm, mini

about the wet carpet ...

my tank had a slow drip that ran down a powerhead cord to the carpet

a year later, there was black growing inside the carpet in front of the tank - I pulled back the carpet and the entire area was wet - seems that even though the water evaporates, the salt remains behind and absorbs water from the atmosphere and the carpet stays wet, perpetually

you may want to evaluate your situation with the carpet when you move the tank out of the way

you don't want to trap wet or salt residue beneath a tarp/plexi combo ... water or salt + no air + no light will equal black death mold

:shudder:

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 10:52 AM
well i would think fixing the problem so it wont overflow at all is better then just putting something under it to catch it.

catalyst
11/09/2006, 10:53 AM
agreed

catalyst
11/09/2006, 10:55 AM
just offerring what I have seen in the past

bought a FW tank from one guy and when we moved the stand, the white carpet under the stand was solid BLACK

just don't know what you'll find until the tank is moved ...

30mini
11/09/2006, 10:57 AM
Yea, It's only been there since about August, so I know there will be something under there, but what I'm waiting to see! I have a carpet cleaner, and I'll clean it as best as I can, you know. Nothing has come through the cieling yet, and trust me, I have been watching, but I probably should put it up a little, like putting the wood under it, and then have the plexi over the wood just for added security. I'm going to fix the siphon break too

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 11:10 AM
Chris, ill bring a bag of Oxy. just in case!

Hey has anyone heard of Coral Vitalizer, Amino Acids, i keep reading about succesful reefs dosing this!

30mini
11/09/2006, 11:12 AM
Cool, thanks Ryan!!

I've never heard of it, but I'd be willing to read up on it!

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 11:14 AM
So far ive seen a few people who dose it daily and wow their tanks, i just want to make sure my corals grow, glow, and prosper...lol

30mini
11/09/2006, 11:16 AM
Maybe worth doing a little research on!

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 11:54 AM
i think its along the lines of zeovit, just not as aggressive. Its made to be added to the tank for coral food. Ive seen some theads where people actually got there tanks to low on the nutrients and there colors faded. they either add fish and feed more, while skimming alot, or try the prodibo/zeovit/coralvit etc food. They only used the food part of these programs i think, ill see if i can find the thread. Ive been reading quite a bit about it lately as my corals all seem to lighten up over time. Im pretty sure my nutrients are very low since i only had 2 clowns in my 55 for a long time. That combined with skimming with a skimmer rated for 220 not sure theres much left in the water. i think the skimmer should be rated to around 150-180 really though. I started feeding a ton more and keeping that tang i got really fat. So we will see if that helps :)

I remember alot of theads where people just started feeding more and or got more fish and it helped. As long as you have the nutrient export to still keep them down. I think the goal is to get as much food/waste from fish in there while still being able to skim and chaeto to absorb it out.

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 11:56 AM
well, yeah ive read over populated fish tanks with sps, color up good, but my fish connection is no long there..lol

30mini
11/09/2006, 12:01 PM
sorry :(

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 12:01 PM
thats ok, ill just have to use scott.....But 39.99 for 50 ml bottle..ouch, thats expensive

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 12:02 PM
what fish do you have now? Yea, overpopulated with fish, but the key here is a skimmer/macro that can keep up with it :)
Are your corals lighting up?
you have a g3x right? whats that rated for?

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 12:05 PM
Hey guys in July when i need to change my other bulb, do you think i should get a 10k, and mix it with a 14 k?

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 12:06 PM
g1x....wated for i think 200..dont know, right now i only have 2 clowns, 4 chromis!

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 12:09 PM
i would go with 10ks if you have the actinics to balance it. otherwise stick to the 14k or see if theres another bulb that puts out more par then the 14khamaltons.

are you getting lightening of your sps ryan?

30mini
11/09/2006, 12:12 PM
Go with 2 10K XM's or Usios!! If you mix, you will have a night/day effect with your lights!

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 12:12 PM
nope not really...everything looks good......

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 12:12 PM
oh just noticed your talking about one 10k and one 14k. i would stick to both the same, otherwise half the tank would be one color and the other half another :) would be cool to see the diffrence in growth/color of one side vs the other though.

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 12:12 PM
Chris, i noticed the polyps out on Bali, little last night!

30mini
11/09/2006, 12:13 PM
SWEET!! The Valida is happy as can be in my tank! PE is great, and the color is coming back on the side that was sitting in the sand!

Fusch13
11/09/2006, 12:15 PM
yeah thats my biggets thing, getting those pieces that kept falling to harden!

Kurt03
11/09/2006, 12:17 PM
sweet, try some cyclopezze and or oyster eggs. Wonder if there just not out since theres nothing to catch? do you feed anything other then just fish food?
