Want to start making Randy's 2part mixture. Anyone know where to get any of that calcium chloride Dowflake?

Thank you much,
Jeff

It should start to be available locally like at lowes or home depot, I got my bag in Chicago last year when I was up there. I have a bag of Mag flake I will sell you for 25 bucks, I bought two bags and I am not running thought that as fast. LMK

I will be happy to show you exactly how to make it...it really is VERY easy. If you want to read about it yourself here you go ---->http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php

Kurt, I understand the way that it's made, but I'd like to check out your method of adding it. I don't have much room under my tank...as was proven when I whipped open my stand door the other day and my cat took up all of the spare room under there! ( Visitor: "How much room do you have under there?" Me: "Oh, a space about the size of a 13 pound cat..")

Just incase you haven't read too much about the Randys two part, it is kind of a three part as well, you have the calcium, alkaline, and magnesium that you want a nice balance. Calc and Alk are the two that you will add more of but the Mag helps to keep the first two stable. But I highly recommend reading the thread Horace refers to understand it better than my short synopsis.

As far as dosing it, I drip it in and it is a PITA doing it this way, a dosing pump would work out best like Horace has.

Dosing pump is the way to go. IF your cat will fit then a pump and 2 - 1 gallon containers will fit fine. I have a couple of containers you can have.

Yeah, the only way to go is using a dosing pump IMO. It is VERY easy to adjust up/down according to your tanks ever changing needs as well. Much easier to adjust than a Calcium reactor IMO.

The pumps arent cheap though, they are about $160 from www.innovativeaquatics.com. Good luck!

If you cant find the dowflake, you can use Prestone Driveway heat. It seems to be a little easier to find than Dowflake. Im pretty sure you can get it at Autozone or Walmart . The should be getting stocked up on it now in preparation for the snowflakes. Do some searches on prestone driveway heat for the proper mixture. The amount you use is about the same as the dowflake if I remember correctly.

I like the dosing pump method, very easy and a lot cheaper than a calc reactor.

The two part is very easy to make.

I'm interested. Haven't had time to look for it yet, though.

You can find it at any international grocery store that carries a decent selection of Russian foods
