Who uses what kind of salt? Why is it the one to use?

SeaChem.... Because I was corrupted by others.

Seachem because it has similar ion levels as NSW (natural salt water) meaning I dont have to add anything and the levels such as Ca arent too high like it is in Salts like Oceanic. It also costs the same as IO.

IMO many salts out there have faults...either this element is too high or too low.

IO for example has quite low mag and ca so you really need to add both of these to brand new IO water change water before even adding it to the tank (a waste of time and money IMO). But worse yet, it has Alk levels that are unacceptably high for me. I like to run my Alk levels in NSW range (7-8dkh). IO is typically around 10dkh. So if I was do do a large water change, I could potentially swing my alk significantly higher (a very bad thing for SPS)

Hopefully that helps :)

Red Sea and IO, seems to work for me. 8.0/420 with calcium reactor, kalk drip.

We have covered this before as well, but if you want a nicely balanced salt and dont want to use Seachem, you can use a 50/50 mix of IO and Oceanic. Oceanic is high in the levels that are low in IO so it balances the ions out. This is being used by quite a few SPS reefers these days. However, IMO it woudl be a heck of a lot easier to just use a good salt like Seachem or Tropic Marine Pro. Reef Crystals is probably what I would choose after those two.

Currently I am using IO, bought it when I ordered all the stuff to get my aquarium running (got it through Drs. Foster and Smith). Was planning on changing to RC when this was out, but after reading all this stuff, will probably go Seachem.

Currently use IO, although I am thinking of switching to Seachem.

Those people who use Seachem.....where do you buy it?

Order online, any of the big names sell it.
