Same old song and dance, I just got another reef tank and am looking to see if anyone has any leftover southdown, or knows where to get some in the area. Let me know jphillips@cacoralfarms.com

Thanks

well... put me in your boat... I'd be interested in some SD also... i'm going to start planning for another tank and if there is a way for us to get some momentum maybe we can get a whole bunch out here?

I'll probably be looking for about 100-150 lbs of it.

Hey Mike,

I think Eddie at Tropical Paradise is goign to be able to take care of us. He is selling Caribian Reef Sand for $24 a bag (40 lb bags). I think I am going to pick up 5 bags Thursday night. If you don't have the shop info here it is:

I was going to mention that pure Caribian, but thought you already knew he had it. Not as cheep as SD, but still about the best deal in the Bay Area.

Last time I did sand I ordered direct from ESV. They ship in 50g pails. Actually think you get 53lb/pail. Shipping to the Bay Area is about $20/pail. So it is more expensive. For the 350lb that I bought it was $281 delivered to my door. From Eddie 360lb will run you $216. So going the ESV route I paid roughly $65 more for 7 3.5g buckets w/ lids and had it delivered to my door. Personally I would do the ESV again. Seems like a good deal. It was also very novel to only have to lug the sand over to the tank. I am still using the 3.5g buckets, they are great. Just throwing out another option.

I don't know where to get SD play sand, but you can get Basalite play sand, which is is practically the same quality. Search the forums for "basalite" or "basalite sand." You will get plenty of results. Basalite sand is abundant in all Home Depot stores in the Bay Area. They are a whopping 3.99 for a 50lb bag! :o

Basalite play sand is silica sand and it isn't as white as southdown, so it isn't quite the same.

The guy in Chino (SoCal) still has some SD bags for $15 each, he had talked about getting a pallet up to the bay area at some point.
