I have a normal 10 gallon glass aquarium from petco. I have recently made a canopy and a stand, almost done. Check it out on the nano page on my web site! www.fishmania.cjb.net ... :)
I plan on having 3-36 watt PC CoraLife bulbs. 2-50/50's 1-actinic.
Will I be able to keep a blue maxima under this lighting? Also, a couple SPS frags... "colorfull ones..."

Thanks!

u can get an orange montipora under that lighting. I wouldn't try for anything really bright or fancy though. I had an orange monti and a green/brown monti cap growing under 2x55 in a 20g so it probably wouldn't be a problem in a 10g. with 2x36.

As for the clam, i doubt a maxima would do good. get a squamosa or deresa clam.

nr53, it was a 3X36 watt pc..... thatsx a hella lotta lighting you are going to have on your tank! i agree thouigh clams and most sps do best under MHlighting regardless of the spectrum/watts etc. im not totally sure y mayb someone can explain it for me but yea i guess you could keep a few darker colored sps. i was also considering doing a small frag to c if it would do well but decided not to untill i have more lighting.

woops, my bad. That's 108 watts. Go with a 70w HQI or iwasaki instead, it'll have more intestity per wattage.

That's like 300 bucks.... :-\

Damn, ten watts per gallon and not even a light loving coral... DAMN!!!

it's all about intensity, not watts per gallon.

I've seen people with colorful SPS in minimum lighting but the main thing is water quality. To replace the lighting intensity u should have great water quality and feedings once in a while. I would recommend buying SPS corals off someone who has grown theirs under PC or VHO lighting.

i personally ahve done sps, quite a few types (acros, monti) about anything under pc and mh. i had 2x36w PC's on my tank and stuff grew but not fast and not very colorful. then i upgraded to 1x36w actinic PC and 1x70w Ushio 10,000k MH (HQI) and that worked better but now i am going w/ a 150w HQI and not sure if i am gonna supplement w/ a pc or not

i would say any sps will do better under MH no matter what but they can be done under PC's just not as well, need more watts PC to make up for not having MH.

so yeah they can be done but i would suggest MH as the best option
