anyone got a picture of green xenias?
how "green" are they? i just picked up a few frags that i suspect may be "green" xenias: they are like the x.elongata but have thicker, longer polyps and have a greenish tint when they are close-up.
are these "the ones" or am i getting excited over nothing?
and anyone seen the "blue" xenias? got a pic? is it really blue w/ green tips like in the "corals" by julian sprung book?

I have seen blue xenia. The specimen I saw looked rather funny compared to other xenia that I am used to. The polyps are smaller, non-pulsing, and definitely had a blue hue to them. I had to ask the clerk what it was exactly because it kind of looked like a cross between xenia and star polyps. I hear it ships badly, and is a little less hardy than the more common types of xenia.

dendronepthea, i know which one you are talking about. i see them quite often here in vancouver. in the "corals" book, they are actually called anthelia instead of xenia (they grow more like anthelia too). in the book, there's also one called the blue xenia that grows in the same shape as regular xenias. i guess no one's seen these.
and, does anyone have or has seen the green xenias? i'm curious whether the ones that i have are it or not.

You are probably getting excited over nothing. Green xenia is usually just elongata and like you said, when it closes it sometimes can have a yellowish green tint to it.This may be a sign of an unhealthy animal (just something i read). Shedd aquarium in Chicago told me they had green xenia (i went to trade with them) and it turned out to be the regular elongata with brown and white tips. If there is a truely green xenia, i havent seen or heard of it yet. Good luck. There is a "blue xenia" in Sprungs Corals book that is classified as Cespitularia on p.183. It has bright blue on it with very green tips. If anyone has some of this i would love to hear about it!

I've seen other pics of that nice blue xenia in Sprung's book, but, unfortunately, I can't remember where. I know it does exist, and it looks really nice. I've never seen truly green xenia.

the "green" xenias that i got are very healthy and growing well. they have much larger polyps than the x.elongata and do not pulse as fast. and there's definitely a green tint when it contracts... will take a picture soon and post them :D
i'll keep my fingers crossed for now.
