Those are serious pumps.....They move a lot of water. I am sure you wont be dissapointed.

If it was me, I would probably have gone the cheap DIY route and built myself 4 MJ1200 Mods that each move 2000gph+ for a total of 4000gph+.

i did build one mj1200 from maximod.com
it was soo honkin huge and ugly but i did move alot of water, its sits off my center brace and moves water behind my rocks soo i dont have to look at it, i just hope my clams dont mind my new pumps to much.
and as a side note, im willing to try the battery backup for the vortech too, i lose power 2-3 hrs at a time about once a month, gets my gut grinding every time.

I like the Tunze pumps. They move the most water. The MJ mods are ok but they take more maintenance and they are not that easy to build. I seen the vortech work at the IMAC. Jeremy had one there running. I would go with 2 Tunze pumps and the multi controler. I think you would be happier. If you loose power get a GPS and put it on a circ pump. That should last a couple of hours a day.

i was leaning in that direction, but ill see how this works and go from there

LOL the mjmods are not hard to build haha, your DIY skills just aint too good Brad :P. The only thing you have to do is replace the thrust washer every few months...thast about it and that takes 2 secs.

If you think the mj mod is ugly/big, the Tunze pumps are gigantic man. they are twice as big. The vortec are pretty big too but atleast part of the pump isnt in the tank. Basically any pump worth a crap is going to look like ***... it really the lesser of two evils... if you want good flow, PHs are almost a necessity.

Yeah I agree with Horace on this one. Have you thought of setting up a closed loop with your big pump?

closed loop pumps pull to much electricity for me

Ok so I am not any good at DIY. This is why Horace = Mr. DIY! I have not had any luck with the MJ mod and my Tunze works great.

MJ mods are ok for smaller tanks but to small on larger applications unless you want lots of them.

Tunze is suppose to be coming out with a battery backup soon.

4xMJ1200 with 1.75 dumas prop = 8000gph+ flow, that is a hell of a lot of flow. That 44x turnover by itself in a 180g. Just one of those pumps in my 75g is too strong. It blows the sand around like crazy...I had to take the big prop out and put the smaller ones back in...even those are on the strong side.

I would only want two PH in my 180g and might scrap the dart and go with a Tunze in the other corner. I'm not sure yet.

My wave box on the lowest setting blow huge holes in my sand bed when it was 2 inches deap and I don't have fine sand either.

Isn't Tunze putting out a smaller magnetic model soon?

yes, the nanostreams dont have the flow numbers but you can find them on tunze.com

Yeah there are good/bad things about the darts...they move alot of water, but they use alot of power too compared to a powerhead. Essentially you gotta pick your poison :)

Im not a fan of how powerheads look either, but 4 MJmods in a 180 would not be overly intrusive I dont think. Like I said, the mjmod is half the size of a tunze pump.

I still thing the Tunze pumps are the best. Expensive compaired to others but like many other things in the hobby you buy the cheap first then buy the good stuff later. Seem a waste, buy the good stuff first and save money.

really curious to see some pics of the ecotech.

I seen it at IMAC. Jeremy from Premium had a booth setup there and he had a Ecotech and a Tunze in the same tank. The Tunze out preformed the Ecotech by alot. Also the Ecotech got very warm on the outside mag drive part. The Ecotech is very cool with only a small part inside the tank and you can place it anywhere very easy.

yay, toys are soo sweet
i dont regret buying either one of them, but if i would do it again, i would buy two ecotech vortechs (and get their controller)

yes horace, the tunze is honking huge(er) but the single controller and the vortech on the other side works out nice, if my sps and clams agree only time will tell.

i love the size of the vortech, it just kinda blends in, its harder to notice than the tunze.

but i still like the tunze better than my mjmod.....
