Hi All,

I'm getting ready to start up a 55g tank and I need some good sand. I was told southdown is a good sand to start with and I should have about 5 inches of it in my tank. Anyone know how much sand I need to get the 5 inches in my 55g? And most important of all.....where do I get southdown in the bay area??? Thanks in advance!

James

This site has a calculator (at top of page) in which you can enter the dimensions of your tank and how deep you want your sand bed. It will tell you roughly how many pounds you will need.

As for where to get SD, there have been some sand threads in the past month or so in this forum. Good luck!
