Henry,

I have had a flame hawkfish for around 4 years. It is one of my favorite fish. After reading your excellent article it opened my eyes to the possibility of pairing up the fish with another flame hawk. Are there any tips for obtaining a fish to pair with my current one? Will my existing flame hawk have changed sex to male in the absence of females?

hi simon

Are there any tips for obtaining a fish to pair with my current one?

try to find one that is considerably smaller than your current one.

Will my existing flame hawk have changed sex to male in the absence of females?

not likely. hawkfish will change into male when a male is needed. therefore, it is not likely it changed in your tank. it may have been a male prior to purchase, however, and unable to revert back to the female sex.

I didn't have to "fish around" to find the article by Henry- thanks to you, Skipper!
Makes me want to get back into maintaining 'hawks- but I'm pretty sure they would gobble down all my breeding clown gobies quickly.
