GRMAS September Meeting Minutes

·Next meeting: Our next meeting will be held on Monday October 2, 2006 in the Family Fare Community Room from 7pm-9pm. We will have a guest speaker talking about research he has done with sea turtles.

·Website: Rob Macy requested a list of members e-mails to contact them to set up the member’s only aspect of our website, Gerde will be emailing this list to Rob in the near future. Rob indicated no members have shown interest in the For Sale section of the website, if he con’ts to not have any interest in this aspect of the website it will be removed. Please e-mail Rob if you have something you would like to sell. Scott Yonkers has a banner from Reef Nutrition, he will email this to Rob to post them as a sponsor.

·Treasurer report: Ed has requested getting checks for the club to help allocate funds in a more timely and convenient fashion. Club members present agreed this was a good idea, Ed will be in contact with the bank and will get these in the near future. Ed also has membership cards for any members who have paid dues but not receive them yet. Please see Ed to pick up your membership cards, these can be shown at Chow Hound at 28th and Eastern for a discount. Brian Vu is working on getting a discount at VIPet’s in Plainfield, he will keep us posted as more information is gathered about this. Club discussed getting a non-profit status for the club, Rob Macy has been working with another club that has recently acquired non-profit status and will get us some information from them about what is required for this, we will be discussing this further at next meetings.

·Swap: Our annual frag swap is scheduled for Saturday March 3rd, 2007 at the Howard Miller Community Building (same site as last year). The swap will take place from 11am-2pm, we will allow vendors to arrive 1 hour early to get their tables set up. Scott Yonkers has a list of vendors to contact for donations, Scott Yonkers and Wendi Soper will be preparing letters for these companies to request donations. We will discuss the progress of this again in November, pending response from letters we may divide the list up to have club members contact these companies by phone to discuss potential donations. Due to confusion and frustration of early entrance to swap by non-vendors, there will be a specific door available for vendors to enter to set up their tables. The main door will not be open to the public until 11am.

·Weekend Events: We plan to reschedule the rock making event for a weekend in November. Rob Macy will check his schedule and will email the board members with dates that will work. Board members will vote on the final date of this event and post it on MR and RC and GRMAS websites. We still have not heard any further information from Preuss about their tour, we will let club members know when we hear from them and will schedule this when they are ready. Club members present voted to take a tour of Aquatic Expressions and Mother’s Reef on Saturday November 11th. We will discuss times and carpooling at the next meeting. Ed introduced a fun idea for an event in December. We will be playing glow-in-the-dark miniature golf (with a fish scene as decoration) on Satureday December 2nd., tentatively at 2pm. Ed will confirm this will work with the facilities and we will finalize this date, time and the location at the next meeting.

·Meeting topic: This meeting’s topic was Fish and Coral Diseases and Treatments, presented by Scott Yonkers and Brian Vu. Copies of their powerpoint presentations can be found on the GRMAS website. Next meeting we will have Brian Vu’s friend speak about his recent research with sea turtles.
