Hello
I have 2 yello coris wrasses(Halichoeres Chrysus, I think, solid yellow, faint red on the fins, 3 blue /black spots on the dorsal fin)

I would like to know if determining the sexes is posable. I can see subtle differences in the markings, and they always stay together, even when they retire, about 1 hr before lights out. Is it posable I have a male/female pair? Is there any chance of babies?
TIA

Yea Hup! :D

Right now, your juvenile H. chrysus sports 3 pairs of ocelli, or eyespots. There are primary sexes, that is the sex, male or female, that they are born as. The fun starts if there is not a dominant male, then the dominant female will become a secondary male. According to the Baensch Marine Atlas, the secondary male loses the ocellus from the center of the dorsal fin. The book is unclear if this occurs with the primary male as he matures. I suspect you will end up with a male/female pair, if you don't have one already. Spawning is not uncommon with these smaller wrasses because they are able to reach adult size. These guys that "pair up" have beautiful courtship rituals, typically at night. However successful rearing of the young has not been accomplished. Filters and skimmers are very hard on the tiny, free-floating eggs. Perhaps you can be the first!!!
