GRMAS Meeting Minutes: August 7, 2006

·Next meeting: Due to the Labor Day holiday the next meting will be on Wednesday September 6th in the Family Fare Community Room from 7-9pm. The topic for the next general meeting will be: livestock selection and quarantining techniques for fish and corals.

·Website: Please check out the updates on the website, Rob has done a fabulous job. We will discuss any changes or improvements you would like to see at the next meeting. We will also discuss how to set up an account for the member’s only section at the next meeting. If you have something you would like to sell please e-mail Rob Macy to have him post this information for you. We also discussed adding a sponsor banner for Reef Nutrition as they have been very faithful in supporting our club, members present thought this was a reasonable idea, Scott Yonkers to get a banner from Reef Nutrition to use.

·Picnic recap: Overall, members were very pleased with the prizes and the picnic turnout. It was great to see so many members present!! Considerations for next year: consider scheduling earlier in summer to help beat the heat, also consider later in day to help make it a little easier to get organized for the picnic. Also consider planning an outdoor game/ etc at next picnics. Thanks to Brian, Marc, and Scott for helping to acquire raffle items.

·Swap: The GRMAS annual frag swap is scheduled for Saturday, March 3rd, 2007. We discussed keeping the hours the same as last year (11-2). There has been a request from Brian to help bag/ get ready items that will be raffled the morning of the swap, several members thought this should not be a problem and help would be available if necessary. Scott will be working on a list of companies to contact for donation of items for raffle.

·Weekend events: The August event previously scheduled for Saturday August 19 (rock making) has been cancelled due to conflict with MI reefer swap meet and other commitments made by members. Will discuss rescheduling this at later time. We are still awaiting to hear from Preuss to reschedule the tour of their new facilities, will give updates as we hear from Preuss. Those members who are interested in making the trip to the MI reefers swap please start a post on Reef Central to get this organized between themselves, if there is a very large interest the club may consider reimbursement to club members in future for travel expenses, if carpooling. There was not a large enough commitment from members present to vote on club contribution at this meeting.

·It was a pleasure to see so many new faces at this meeting, nice to meet you all and hope to see you at our next meeting!!

·Brian has a friend who is performing research with sea turtles and will be willing to speak at our October meeting.

·Meeting topic: Scott Yonkers presented on the Zeovit method, if you would like to learn more about this please as Scott Yonkers or Wendi Soper. Meeting topic for September meeting: Healthy specimen selection and quarantine procedures for fish and corals.
