I cant say i will be able to make yet as i do property maintenance and am the only guy to maintain 40+ units and my life is controlled by the tenants....lol. Everyone has been so helpful in getting my 200g up and running and i am indebted to everyone. I hope in the future i can in some way pay you all back.

Looking for macro algae and xenia if anyone has extra (I keep hearing about people having to flush their xenia so DON'T :D ). Acrylic sheets just arrived at school and I'll be making student refugiums this weekend (I don't even know how to operate a saw so this should be fun )...and we'll start fragging xenia well...when I have enough, lol! I refuse to spend $40 on a frag of xenia even if it is the school's money.

Ian, I look forward to meeting you and welcome to ANCHOR. Donating frags to other members tanks is insurance for the "WHEN" rather than 'if' your personal tank crashes. When that happens, you can get all of your prized corals back quickly since frags will have been cared for in another separate system.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks.

I am RSVP'ing for one. Mike, Please PM me address, phone and directions (not the same directions you used to find my house since you got LOST!) - LOL

Does anyone want Kenya tree colonies? I have whole colones about 8" across, I have 2 of these to give away if anyone is interested. I also have about eight 3" frags to give away as well.

I also have a nice rock with some orange zoo's I can give away as well.

ladyfsu
08/20/2006, 06:34 AM
I would like any Kenya trees you have...or zoo's that aren't already claimed.

OK this is what I have. I have a donated blue chalice of some kind. I don't think it is doing well in my tank, and quite frankly it's not what we need in class. My tank at home really isn't right for it either (I WISH it was!!). I'd like to frag it into 4 pieces or so but not really sure how, or if it is safe for it. Here's the pic. I can bring the whole thing and let you guys do it. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE CRAP PHOTOGRAPHY!!

http://www.reefrascals.org/images/600_P1010015.JPG

I also have this beautiful...erm...thing, lol. It's about 7 inches by 4 inches. I can bring a couple of frags of this.

http://www.reefrascals.org/images/600_flowery_coral.JPG

Hopefully one day my rics will grow out to share. They are gorgeous. First corals I ever bought and I've had them for about 2 weeks. Bright bright colors!

Anyone want a frag of gorgonians? I just had 6 big ones donated. I told the guy that I might frag some out so I can get other things from people in the future and he had no problem with that (thought it was good).

BankerJohn
08/20/2006, 07:57 AM
Lady FSU,

The Chalice will need more light for sure. I would be interested in a frag of it for sure! I have no clue how to frag though.

I'll be sure to bring stuff from GatorOlsen's tank to you for the meeting. I also plan on bringing plenty of Chaetomorpha for those that want/need it.

BankerJohn
08/20/2006, 08:04 AM
Ian, those are beautiful Zoos in the picture. After others get some, and if there are any left, I would like a few polyps to add to my tank.

Steven M
08/20/2006, 08:41 AM

08/20/2006, 11:41 AM
Biscutz, those zoos are very pretty. I hope maybe I'll have something to trade with you. As you can see below I love to collect zoos.

For some trades I'm hoping to bring some zoos, and a green polyped Ora Scripps stag frag (I broke it off accidently about 2 weeks ago, its mounted an looks to be doing well). I think I've also got a colony of GSP somewhere in there to trade.

I can also bring some keyna trees, Anthelia and xenia (2 types) for anybody who wants it. I'll try to post some pictures later.

I've seen photos already of several things I'd be interested in, zoos, chalice, pagoda cup(??).

I would be more then happy to take any unclaimed frags. We are just getting our tank stocked. Especially the Xenia. I tried a piece before and it is the only thing that has not done well. It kinda melted away and still has a few very short pieces trying to come back.

I also have a few zoo frags, and a few mushrooms if any one is interested. I might have a piece of black tube coral. The black version of the sun polyps. I will try to frag a piece off. It is very healthy, opens everyday and eats like a pig.

Can't wait to see everyone there.

Hey guys,

I don't have anymore of the orange zoo frags left. I gave the main frag to Mike, seeing he is our host. I moved a few rock rubbles right next to the large orange and green colony, so I should have a few polyps over there by next month. I still have Kenya Tree Colonies to give away and a few Monti-Digi frags (purple and green) to give away. I will also trade a large red Monti-Digi colony for any other SPS if anyone is willing. This colony is about 4" long and 3" across glued to a 4" piece of LR. Let me know if anyone is interested. (Pics to come when I get home .:) )

Thanks,

Ian

08/21/2006, 05:47 PM

He was such a pig I just left the net in the tank for a few hours until he was used to seeing it. Then I put a bunch of krill near the net and he practically swam into it, haha.

08/21/2006, 07:29 PM

08/22/2006, 07:49 AM
The pink tail I had really tore up my digi's. He was swimming around the tank with a dinner plate size colony in his mouth, dropping it from the top of the tank and then doing it again. I almost had to change my shorts!

08/22/2006, 09:22 AM
Ted,

When you collected your NSW from the gulf, how far did you go out from sore?

Ian

reefrubble
08/22/2006, 09:26 AM
Ian , The last time I went out ,I think it was about 20 miles. Ted

Biscutz
08/22/2006, 09:27 AM
HOLY CRAP! Maybe 9mi isn't enough?? I tested the water and all parameters are good, but I did notice an accumulation of algae on the bottom of each bucket.

Biscutz
08/22/2006, 09:28 AM
BTW Temp is down to 83 and dropping, maybe to fast.

reefrubble
08/22/2006, 09:50 AM
You should be ok with the temp coming down. You don't want swings Up,and down,Up,and down. I go out that far for two reasons ,one to get away from fresh water discharge ,from the river, and two ,to get away from other pollutants. Ted

Biscutz
08/22/2006, 10:01 AM
The problem is, I can't check the water for pollutants, as far as salinity, PO4, Calcium, Mag, Alk, Amm, Nitrite, and Nitrate everything is in order. I've never collected water from this close before, I guess I'm just a little reluctant to use it. What do you think?

reefrubble
08/22/2006, 03:20 PM
Unless there is a red tide , I think you will be ok. Some times I only go out ten to twelve miles. In the summer the warm water close to shore seems to have more algae suspended in it. Ted

Biscutz
08/22/2006, 04:02 PM
Thanks Ted, the water looks and smells fine. If there was a red tide outbreak you would really smell it in the water. I noticed that all the algae basically settled to the bottom, so I'm just going to siphon out the top 90% and use that. I couldn't belive the salinity level though, it was almost at 1.027. Now I know that this is perfectly fine in the realm of natural sea water, but normally it runs about 1.204-5 all the times I have tested it. I thought It was my refractometer needing to be calibrated, but I re-calibrated it with distilled water and it was right on the money again. What has been your experience with NSW up by you, as far as salinity?

reefrubble
08/22/2006, 05:50 PM
Ian ,It's been running at 1.025 ,but I did get some that was 1.026. I get it just before high tide,on an incoming tide. The first time I was too close to shore ,and it was 1.024. The river water goes out quite a ways ,and stays close to the surface. I drop my pump down about 6 feet, about 12 to 14 miles out. Ted

Biscutz
08/22/2006, 06:40 PM
I did the same thing about 9-10 miles out. My pump goes about 4.5-5 feet down. Well the water is in the tank, and everything is still alive, haha. Looks good!

reefrubble
08/22/2006, 07:22 PM
Ian, how much water do you bring back with you ? I come back with 80 gal. , for my tank ,and 15 gal. for Paul's tank . Ted

Biscutz
08/22/2006, 07:47 PM
WOW! I only do 25g at a time. How big is your boat ted? What do you transfer the water in?

reefrubble
08/22/2006, 07:57 PM
My boat is only 21 ' ,but I have a fair amount of room. I use a mag drive pump to pump from the boat to my sump room. I drain the water from my sump ,and pump in the new water. Ted

Biscutz
08/22/2006, 08:01 PM
Nice, we have a 19' boat and I just use 5g buckets. It's a real PITA.

reefrubble
08/22/2006, 08:11 PM
I have some 50 gal food grade barrels. I think I paid $10. each for them. They smell like peppers, but I washed them out real well ,and they work fine.

09/01/2006, 05:16 AM
I'm bring that chalice for you. It definately needs a new home FAST! If it looks healthy and big enough to split with someone then I think it should be (Steve and Mike get first crack). By December I should have quite a bit for the trading fun. Things are starting to multiply and grow...FINALLY!

Again, if anyone has any of the following and willing to give it up, I'll take as much as you have!

Xenia
Macro algae
xenia
Zoos/Shrooms
xenia
a bag of your sand (students will be filling their refugiums next week mostly with playsand but will need a jump start :) )

...and did I mention xenia plz :)

Aquatic Hamster
09/01/2006, 09:42 AM
I'll have:

PomPom pulsing xenia
Tall pulsing xenia
Anthellia (clove coral)
Lime green zoos mixed with some red zoos
mounted frag of a green polyped ORA Scripps Stag
mounted keyna trees

If any of that chalice is still available I'd be interested. I'll bring lots of extra xenia for the junior reefers. :)

Mike - your tank is sweet! Many thanks to you and your wife for your hospitality and the silver striped xenia. Your stand and canopy are awesome. However, I was thinking that your sump room would also make for a perfect area to have a wall tank facing your living room:D

Steve - thank you for the GSP's and the red mushroom.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend:)

I'm finally home!!! Mike, GREAT TANK AND WOODWORK!!! April, I appreciate the warm hospitality. Chad, I enjoyed meeting you and your wife (is it renee??? sorry, I am bad with names). GlobalP and wife, I enjoyed meeting you too. It's always good to see everyone else.

George, thank you again for letting me see your tank on the way home. You have some fantastic stix.... I'll get there someday.

LadyFSU, I truly appreciate the chalice. It looks pretty rough and has a lot of recession. I will beby it a bit to try and get it to come back. Once recovered, someone with a dremel can frag it at a meeting for us all.

FAOIS - we appreciate your kindness and help too. The fish are in a drip now acclimating. They were quite stressed :( from the trip.

Hey Mike,
She's my wife;) And she says that your son was no bother at all and that he is a "very precious little boy"! We have a son that's 14, but thinks he's 18 and should be able to run the show. Boy do they grow up fast! Enjoy it while you can :D

Hey George - next time you want to frag that green or purple cap I'd be willing to travel and pay! The green looked great in Mike's tank;)

I hope everybodies frags do well. I gave out a bunch of xenia, and I know some people have a hard time growing it. But as I was cleaning out my frag tank this morning I found an example of how prolific it can be. Here is a picture of pom-pom xenia growing on macro algae. And I checked, it was firmly attached, not just loosely tangled in the algae. Very impressive little critters

Thank you so much Mike for not only hosting the meeting which was a great time, I just wish we could have got there earlier, but also for helping us yesturday. I know it took up most of your day, and I can't thank you enough.

I love you tank and especially the stand. I love the lip around the edge you have to set things on if you have to.

Thanks to aqautichampster for the Xenia. They were all very stressed from the car ride. The unmounted ones dissappeared as well as most of the pinks, but the mounted silver ones are doing well. I will let you know how they do.
