I know some of you don't check the Tucson/Sierra Vista forum, so I'll re-post here:

==========================================================

I'm planning for when it's time to move my tangs from QT back to the main tank. If I'm going to get another tang, that would be the only time to do it so they all go in at the exact same time.

Do any of you have any experience with an Achilles tang? Any problems with picking on corals?

My other 3 tangs are yellow, atlantic blue, and powder blue.

BTW, I had 4 tangs in there before with no problem, but the sailfin died on a Seio 1100.

Talk to Sidewinder. He has one and it seems to be doing great. I want to get one also.

A PBT and an achillies, brave man! I would like to also try this, let me know how it works out.

What size skimmer do you have?4 tangs can wreak havok on sps colors.

PBT and an achillies I wouldn't mix those. Both are too territorial and aggressive IMO

I have a ER 8-1. I could do better, but this one barely fits.

Although, even when I had all 4 tangs, I never had amonia, nitrites, or nitrates. The system seems fine as-is.

See, that's the thing. I'm not finding a lot of examples of keeping both, and I haven't seen anyone who introduced them both at the same time.

you could always try and if they dont get along you could sell it off to a local

I have 5 tangs in my SPS tank and a couple of angels and the colors are outstanding, it all has to do with proper husbandry.

yeah a mrc dual beckett is way more skimmer than a 8-1

Yeah, I would like to go bigger, but as you can see, things are pretty tight down there. As it is now, I have to partially dissassemble it to get the collection cup out.

If we buy a house and have to move the tank, I'll re-do my plumbing so the ball valves are horizontal rather than vertical, giving me much more room.

There is a guy that has a bunch of PBT and Achilles tang and other acanthurus tangs in the same tank, but I think he has a 700 gallon tank.

I did not notice that you already have a PBT. I am curious to how it works out. I want to try the same thing in my next tank.

Currently, I have two large and two medium tangs with a ER 12-3 RC, but the pumps are old. Skimming is good, and the SPS colors are good but not great. Some do well and others not so well. I am waiting for the new ER, Dart and Eheim pumps to hit the market so I can replace my current pumps. I think my skimmer will kick some butt with those new pumps.

Why do you have so little room in your sump with a 180 gallon tank? I have a similar size tank and no issues with space. Might want to turn your ER into an external one so you can get out of the sump.

I mounted all 7 ball valves vertically. If I had done them horizontally, I would have another 6" to work with.

I would guess that the only way to get a PBT and a achillies together is to add them together. I have 7 tangs in my 300 and the last one in was a PBT about 4 months ago. Yesterday I tried adding tang #8. The PBT went crazy! #8 is now in his own 75g tank. Non of the other tangs had a problem with the new one but the PBT would not let it happen. JMO

That's the plan. All three of my tangs are currently in QT. I would add them and the new one to the main tank at exactly the same time.

I say give it a shot, but have someone ready to take one if it oes not work out. Always got to have a back up plan! Good Luck. Let me know how it works out as I plan to try to mix those two in my new set up that is about 6-10 months away.

It will be awhile until they're ready to come out of QT, September 1st, so I have time to research and make a decision.

Sorry for hijacking, but on a similar topic I've been thinking about...how about a Blue Tang and a Purple tang together in a 70 gallon tank? Bad idea, if introduced together?

I think it is a bad idea since a 70 gallon is too small.
