looking for a new pump for my 80g my last one is dieing on me and i dunno how many gph i need for a reef tank from just the pump but i got a canister filter so any help would be good

external or submersible? I have 2 pumps which put out around 500-600 gph which supplys one 1" drain good.

right but what size is the drain in the overflow ?

i dont have an overflow the tank is just drilled

would be 1000 gph be to much>?

Then its a closed loop and any pump should work but my guess would be 1000gph would work or less. Both pumps I have would give you almost 800gph with zero head which a closed loop has no head pressure.
