Brian at Finsreef knew I wanted a new chiller and recommended I wait for this new brand he saw at Interzoo. I just got it. It is a series of fans and works off the Peltier Effect. It is low wattage, very small and very silent. AFAIK, the Iceprobe is the only other chiller utilizing the Peltier Effect - think of this as his REALLY big brother. Here are a few pix. I got the 400. Nicest part is that it comes with its own controller, it heats and cools. I'll post more pix when I have it up & running.

I got the one third to the left

A smaller one in action

Lots of pix on this page, helps to speak I-talian (http://www.acquaportal.it/_ARCHIVIO/ARTICOLI/climatizzatore_OceanGeotronic.asp)

Here is the website

That is totally cool (no pun intended), David.

BTW, when you are ready to sell it, I want first dibs. ;)

Pretty slick, especially since it can be fixed in the piece of furniture under the bathtub rather than fixed on a side of the piece of furniture.

Don't know what I am talking about? Google Translator can be entertaining:

Oh and for advanced bathtubs over 900L, connect them in series. From now on I will be referring to my tank as the advanced bathtub.

What is the gallon rating in comparision to price? Looks very neat!

My best guess the model for 150 gallons goes for about 1,300.00
that will be about 8.70 per gallon capacity compared to aqualogic that stands at about 4.70 per gallon capacity.
Nice to know will be if there are power savings and how much.

LOL Van, I'll LYK.

Thanks Tiff, I'll have to move the power supply over to the bathtub now! ;-)

Sundevil Brian - not cheap but I also get a decent sized unit. Prices should be on finsreef.com soon I think.

Evolust/Jdieck - Don't really know yet but after I get it figured out I will LYK. It is labeled at 260W. Oh and jdieck - thanks a million times for your calculators. ;-) Next to the Durso, a brilliant contribution!

Thanks! by the way I think this are neat, 260 watts will be equivalent to about a 1/3 hp chiller.
I think what I like the most is that they will last forever, other than the fans there are no moving parts. Also they will not spike the circuit current on each start up so lexx chance of tripping GFCIs.

Sweet! I've been waiting to see a larger thermoelectric chiller! IceProbe and now these are a very smart solution, as the chiller itself probably doesn't generate any more heat than what it transfers out of the tank, vs. a standard compressor driven chiller that generates more heat.

I have done a little research about thermoelectric/peltier chillers.

From what I have read the peltier pad have a moderate life span, because the heating and cooling effect, on the chiller side of the peltier, will cause it to expand and contract. The on going expansion and contraction of the peltier pad will eventually effect its ability to chill.

If I am going to put several hundred dollars down on a chiller I want one for the long haul...

I hunted around to try and find the source I read this from, but no luck..... So take this for what its worth.

Hey guys, its about a grand. I also ordered some other goodies and I don't remember each one, only the total because when I saw it, I needed some ....

Here is a thread with lots of opinions. Not for everyone but it met some needs that no other chiller did, plus its a heater and has dual stage control. Lots of other things made it worth it to me, but everyone has their comfort range. Plus if it does operate at 250W max and it works, I will make up SOME of the difference in electricity.

Well my wife downloaded some pictures of my son and found these on the card. These were when I first put it in. It has been moved around many times. Its very small and lightweight so its easy to maneuver.

To the left there is a stainless box, that's the power supply. I'm an idiot, it gets hot and I kept it in my canopy so the chiller had to fight it. The chiller won though.

Several people came over last week and couldn't believe it was a chiller, its so small and quiet.

Its nice to be able to put it in the stand instead of next to it. You are the king or the latest gagets! When are you going to get an LED light set up, you know your going to, its new!

Thanks man, I like the no molding look myself. I added some Caribsea Seafloor mixed with Southdown to the front. I'm taking the tank down for a move in a few months and will make some changes, mainly about a 2" Starboard base that will be cut for the LR, and sand between the LR and the front of the tank. The flow will be designed to push all the detritus out onto the sand. Its working well right now but I need thicker starboard. I might try to "glue" some sand to the starboard also.
