My temps peak at about 27.2 now. not too bad. the unit does get warm, so i'm looking at getting a couple clip on blowers. Also the left side has an exhaust fan and the right side has a cutout for a fan.... but no fan? So i got a 2" fan to jam in there.... now i just need a 12v x 90ma power pack.

I have noticed that with no top on my tank now suffers from extreme evaporation. Should I be topping of with RO or saltwater?

Haha sorry for the different sizes. new program for cropping, working out bugs. you get the picture. Neways, got a pic of my claw snapping shrimp in my tank.... will post win the morning with my next nitrate test. cross your fingers for me.

There are set screws. the biggest thing that sucks is there is only 1 reflector :(

sweet man.
Where did you end up getting them from?

Do your top off with RO and not saltwater. Looking good! When are you going to get the sump going?

Donstuprich
07/21/2006, 09:08 AM
Yeah I've seen my salt level rising. Also my evap has gone thru the roof! Sump huh... grumble... hmm... dunno. Not til after i get this pay check :)

I got the lights from drs fosters. on sale... 199, from 269

BTW, the "RO" up at foster is sitting at about 10ppm of nitrates. so I won't be topping off with that.... i dunno what to top off with then :(

does ppm sell RO water?

vest0830
07/22/2006, 08:03 AM
no, they sell saltwater (sea water) only I think.

Also, the people who I am getting the new tank from said that they use regular tap water for top off. havent had any issues.

ahhh PPM does sell RO water.. Ive gotten some from them before. Once my RO/DI unit comes in man, I can hook you up with water. Can bring it into work and leave it for you, no problem.

That'd be awesome! I guess I'll try to go get some RO from PPM then. My evap is killing me.

Gotta love summer time. Evaporation and heat is the main enemies now. First time I actually lost coral due to heat. My tank hit 90 and killed a lot of stuff but now it's under control by a few adjustments here and there. It will take a while for the other coral to adjust though.

I peak at 27.0 now and swing down to 25.5 at night. more swing than i like, but not to bad of a peak.

Considering where you live, that will be a normal fluctuation. You might want to think about a chiller.

27 is only 82. I'm happy with that and my wife is happy with the ac :)

oh and i don't listen well jeff :D I went and got a zoo patch from ppm.
Also my sand bed is bubbling like a can of soda! I'm happy now :) PH was up to 8.5ish today so i buffed out a little to 8.3

did you do freshwater tanks before Don? you are all over that PH.. lol dont think Ive ever tested for PH, didnt think it was that big of a deal.

nah, just checked today because i did a 20% water change sunday, also dosed a little calcium after test showed it was low. was worried about low alk.

edit-

also read that settling sand beds can flux ph... read it somewhere.
