Octo ID please

I purchased an Octopus the other day. I have been doing a lot of reading and understand that the majority in the aquarium trade are temprate. I asked the LFS people and they said it was just a normal brown Octopus and 78-80 is fine. I know better than this, I think? Anyway it has two blue peacock looking rings below its eyes and it is about the size of a closed fist. TIA- Bill

Sounds like you have a pacific mud flat octopus. O.bimaculoides.
They prefer temp to be between 58=75F
with 64=72 being your best bet. They can handle temps up to 79 but life span will be shorter. There is a lot of info on bimacs in this forum.
