Hello, I was told that there was an Okinawa group on reef central and look here it is! Anyways, our family is leaving the island in August and we have a 55 gal saltwater tank that we really would like to sell before we leave. What's included? Practically the best of the best! Here is the list:

--Euro Reef ES5-3 Protein Skimmer
--Life Reef double overflow box
--Tunze Turbelle Stream powerhead kit TS12 with single controller (wavemaker/food timer)
-Metal Halides: IceCap system with spider light reflector (x2) and 2 Hamilton 175 watt 14,000K bulbs
--Custom made Stand and Canopy (finding a good stand and canopy is hard here on island)
--All livestock (live rock, corals, damsel, gamma, clownfish, anemones and room for more of your choice!)
--Marineland heater
--Custom Sump/refuge (may need to replace)
--Additives and supplements: Kent Marine Essential elements x2, Phytoplex, Strontium and Moolybdenum, Coral Vite, Coral Excel, liquid calcium, Kalkwasser x2, Iodine, Formula One and two fish food, Kent Marine Reef Carnivore fish food, Kent Marine Aqua Doser, Salt, Cleaning supplies, test kit.

Our tank has been set up and running for almost 2 years. Take all of this for $1500! This is a deal! Do the research and see! You can't beat this price. Willing to work out any deals. Please feel free to contact Vianca or CJ at 632-3343 we're on Kadena Air Base and will help you transport and set up the tank.

Ive got a few plans for it when I get it. Not right away, but I do have a few plans.

The tank already has a real nice light set-up on it. Shouldnt have any problems there. If anything, depending if we move off base or not, I might toss my halide in there also. That will give it 3, 175w MH lights. That should blind the fish pretty good.

I am also going to kick the water flow up a few notches. The Tunze seems to do an awsome job, I was really impressed with that. Had the super cool controller and everything. Im going to get a SQWD and toss that on there for the return, and maybe put a few jets in there. Im also debating weather or not to put my seio in there also. I will probably put the Seio in there at first, maybe remove it once the SQWD goes in. Im also going to put the CF lights I got from Jeff (which I still need to pay you for) and put that over the fuge. 65k bulb should grow chateo pretty nicely. Not as nice as a t-5 light but it should do the job. haha. The skimmer seemed like it was doing a hell of a job, wont need to make any changes there, the sump/fuge needs a little work, nothing a little JB weld wont fix. Overall it was a really nice set-up. Im super excited to get it. Couldn't sleep last night thinking about it. Once I move all of my coral over to the tank and let it do its thing...should be really nice.

Frank and Lindsay, just wanted to let you know that we got the message and we will be looking forward to your call on Sun. I hope you guys really enjoy the tank! We sure did! It's too bad I couldn't find a deal like this when I started setting up. I'm sure you are going to make the tank way more beautiful than we were able to. Anyways we'll talk more on Sunday for arrangements. Take care!!!

Like I said, bring it over, it will be up in no time. As far as the cube, I was thinking about it for a friend although I think he would probably want to go bigger. Hey, you better post up some pics of the new tank for us to see.

I picked up the tank today. Its full of water and about half of the LR that came with. Hopefully the water will clear up by tommorow around lunch time and I will finish aquascaping.

they are comming, they are comming....

I just got the LR set up and my coral moved. The tunze is no joke. I think its re-arranged the entire sand bed a few times now, and its turned down as far as it will possibly go. Going to have re-arrange that tonight.

jeffb3t
07/24/2006, 05:01 AM
PM sent back Frank. I am ready anytime you are.

vest0830
07/24/2006, 07:22 AM
heres the madness
http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/100321tank-with-rock.jpg

heres the aquascaping. Mostly all of this rock came with the tank. Of course about 50% of my rock went in the tank as well...
http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/100321coral-in.jpg

2; 250w 14k bulbs will blind the heck out of you. They also had some flouresent lighting in the front, but it was uncovered and he said if you touch it slightly, it would fry you...and picturing Lindsay getting fried wile trying to feed the fish just didnt seem like a good situation. So I removed them. Also, the hood wasnt hinged, so I threw some hinges on there tonight. -ohh I also transfered the little 3" fan that I had in the cube into the hood as well, I figured a little air movement is better than no air movement.
http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/1003212-250w-14k.jpg

The sump of course isnt in yet. Im going to hook up with Jeff and get that straighted out, hopefully have it full of water on Wensday or Thursday. Then it should really clear up. The Tunze is going to take LOTS to adjust to get just right. That thing moves some SERIOUS water, and its turned 100% down. Brett was over this evening and mentioned adding a few SQWD's so that might be an option.

A carpet anenome came with the tank, and my clown instantly took to it. My tomato is still wondering around looking for his lather. I thought it was pretty crazy though how fast the perc. took to the anenome . I mean, it was instant. Hes defending it pretty hard, and laying in it...so I think its his.

I have a nice area in the back of the rock under the PH for frags. Im kidna excited about that area. The zoos are slowly opening tonight.

Im excited to get the sump/fuge working. Hopefully by the end of the week.

Again, thank's CJ and Vianca :) Its a great addition to our home that will hopefully last a LONG time :)

07/24/2006, 05:48 PM
thanks! :)

anyone know how to set a simple timer?
the ones with the dial on it? I know this is the digital age, but I dont have a digital timer just yet....

the instructions just dont make much sense. "turn the dial to the desired time" but how does it know what time it is, and how does it know when to turn it off? -or am I thinking to far into it?

viancamolina
07/24/2006, 08:27 PM
Frank there are red and bluish green pins that we placed in a ziplock bag for you. Those go to the timers. I don't know how to use them myself but if you want I can ask Chudy to help you out. I'm glad that you are enjoying the tank! It's looking good.

jeffb3t
07/25/2006, 02:47 AM
We need to talk about those MH. Wanna trade for a 4 bulb VHO/ 2 bulb T5HO set up? Also, we need to work on the stand BEFORE the sump goes in. It needs to be waterproof and hold water if it leaks or spills. I like to prepare for an emergency before it arrives. We will talk when you come over to fix the sump.

vest0830
07/25/2006, 02:52 AM
i am in the process of sealing it up right now accually. Im trying to get it done before Lindsay comes home so it sits all night and cures. Im going to do the fiberglass resin that you were telling me about earlier. Im going to go to makeman and get a peice of wood to go across the back of the stand and that should act as a catch for the resin. Hopefully I get it sealed with caulk tonight and then fiberglass resin this week, while the fuge is drying/curing. Then set the sump in this weekend.

As for the halide trade, I might be interested in that.

jeffb3t
07/25/2006, 02:56 AM
If you want to buy the stuff, I will sell it to you cheaper. I got a bunch of silicon and fiberglass resin that I don't need.

vest0830
07/25/2006, 08:01 AM
Hey Jeff....thanks again for the help! I appreciate it!

Lindsays suprise that she kept calling about... she got me a blue tang and shrimp. She got the wrong shrimp...but thats alright. I kinda wanted to wait to get anymore livestock until we at least got the skimmer up, but ohhh well...... im happy. Was a suprise to me! :)

vest0830
07/25/2006, 06:39 PM
On the flip side...We (jeff and I) are going to rebuild the sump. Its going to get completly tore apart and then rebuilt. I think we are going to put a little bigger return in the fuge area for more flow there. I just gotta order some weld-on and once that gets here the fun will begin.

Im also going to waterproof the inside of the stand with fiberglass resin as I mentioned in the other post. I figure I might as well do it all, and do it right...right now while its still being built. I dont have the skimmer running yet, but it will get there. Water changes will be the key for the next few weeks. The tang survived through the night, seems to be fine. :)

jeffb3t
07/26/2006, 06:17 AM
Yeah, keep up the water changes. The sump will take a bit of time... Right now it's in a bunch of pieces so I can remove all the silicon and use weld on to keep it from leaking again. It will also receive some supports to reinforce it a bit.

vest0830
07/26/2006, 05:05 PM
Great! I have my in-laws on the prowel for some weld-on. She said she believes they have it at home depot and Hobby Lobby. They are some hard core DIY people so im pretty cofident on them getting the right thing. Hopefully they will find it and get it shipped by the weekend. I don't know how they ship things, but things from them usally get here in about 4-5 days, from Indiana. Hopefully next weekend we will have it.

-and a 15g water change will be done probably tonight.

vest0830
07/28/2006, 07:49 AM
Jeff, I just got off of the phone with the in-laws. She said that she knows exactly what we are looking for. She has found a few other products that fuse together acrylic, found a 3m product she says...think I should let her grab it, or should I just order the weld-on and go from there. Once we get the stuff, I wanna be able to get right on it!

If she gets this stuff that she has found, it would probably be here by this time next week. If I order the weld on, we are probably looking at another 2 weeks. Up to you. :shrugs:

On another note, the tang seems to be doing perfectly fine. I was a little nervous about it at first, but it seems to be fine. Those fish have such personality. I woke up this morning to go to the tank...looking for it...its upside down, mouth facing down chillin behind the power head hanger that holds the PH in place. I instantly thought something was wrong...turns out, thats just his chill spot. lol.

The skunk cleaner finally set up shop and began cleaning. Thats awsome to watch. it was sorta funny...he like swam out of his hole and started pickin at the tang and then the tank was like *** and swam over to him. Pretty cool.

jeffb3t
08/02/2006, 05:49 AM
Ok, the last few days I have been sweating, drinking beer, scraping, drinking beer and working on the sump. I am almost done. one more beer and only the fuge to seal with #16 and it's DONE!!!!!!! Oh wait, might have to wait until tomorrow...I ran out of beer.

jeffb3t
08/02/2006, 06:12 AM
Aw, never mind...I found the strength to finish it off. Now I just have to wait a few days for a full cure and do a leak test. That has got to be the hardest acrylic job I have ever done. The acrylic was warped and I had to tape everthing to get it to somewhat seal right. Some sections I had no choice but to use #16 due to the gaps but It should hold water like a charm. Thanks to Dastank for letting me use his #16.

vest0830
08/02/2006, 07:16 AM
thanks Mike! And very many thanks to Jeff! I appreciate it! BTW, Lots of #3 is on the way for the next tank ;)

Good cause I'm ready to start another project.

jeffb3t
08/03/2006, 03:02 AM
Ok, water test #1 failed. 3 small leaks from the fuge and 1 from the baffle. I emptied, dried and added a little 16. so far, no apparent leaks going outside of the sump. Tomorrow is test # 2

i meant that test #2 was/is going today.

jeffb3t
08/04/2006, 03:06 AM
This bites. Test # 2 failed. still a pin hole in the fuge area and a slight split on the side most likely from me forcing the 2 sides together and the weld on not adhering them good enough.

vest0830
08/04/2006, 04:50 AM
yeah, that does bite.

jeffb3t
08/04/2006, 05:02 AM
ok, 3rd times a charm right????? resealed the areas that had the lead and got bored and added a brace in the center from some scrapes I found. Dude, I might need a couple more beers if the 3rd time doesn't work. tomorrow is judgement day.

When can I come get it :)

jeffb3t
08/08/2006, 02:33 AM
I pulled it in last night because I thought it might rain. I want to have at least one week with it filled up to see if I have any pin hole slow leaks. Hopfully this week will clear up a bit and I can fill it and leave it. If I left it full and it rained, it would stay wet under it and I wouldn't ever know if it was from rain or a leak.

vest0830
08/08/2006, 07:31 PM
The marriage thing seems to make women remeber more ****. more of the stupid ****. just my $.02.

on another note....
I've been thinking about the plumbing idea. The tunze is awsome, but it just doesnt get the entire tank. -Could be partly the way I have it set-up, could be the fact that theres absoulty no way im getting flow throughout the entire tank on 1 powerhead. I DO want a small area of minimal flow for the 'clam corner' and for my small prop section.

I'm wanting to do 2, maybe 3 nozzles in the return. For some reason, I like the way PVC looks in the tank. Especially when its covered on coraline (sp)

Check out how this guy did his returns:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a340/o4_srt/proptankinlet.jpg

think I might try this.

vest0830
08/13/2006, 10:24 PM
for the meantime I have set-up a 20g beer cooler for a sump. I wanted to get the skimmer running so I just decided to work on this yesterday.

I think I have the skimmer dialed in. Took a little bit of messing around but its doing its job. I think im going to have to put a overflow in it. They also make a gate mod for the skimmer...so I might give that a try. This is really only a few hours of skimming...

http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/100321skimmer.jpg

and heres the temp sump...
holding 10g of water. I only have 1 return flowing into it right now.

Wow.

Didnt know there was so much reefer activity on Oki. Just spent two weeks there and came back last week (UFL Exercise). I was born there in '64 and spent a lot of time in Naha looking around.

Are you guys keeping your tanks at home? With the amount of rock all over the place (yards, along the streets, etc....) have you used any in your tanks?

fdokinawa
09/06/2006, 01:53 PM
would never use any that was just laying around.. but yea, we get rock no problem.. lol
