Sick toadstool/xenia

So i have a toadstool leather that has been developing a black fungus looking stuff on it and it seems to be spreading. where the black was a few days ago it is now white. it looks like dead tissue but i do not know. also, i have the same thing happening with a xenia colony, but the stuff on it is green and it seems to be killing the xenia. does anyone know what that could be?

i actually brought a pic into a lfs and they said my toadstool was splitting, which is a good thing i guess, but they told me to do frequent water changes. ill post a pic anyways, maybe it is something else. i havent looked into it much
