Hi everyone.

I've been in contact with reefer6 (Murray) about getting some southdown sand to the Bay Area. He recently got a large shipment to southern california and is willing to transport some up to us. The cost will be $15 per 50lb bag. The only catch is that we need to commit to at least 56 bags or a full pallet.

Please e-mail me if you're interested.

That is always the problem. Last time I set up a tank I just did ESV Oolitic. I have to say, having used sd in the past, that the ESV is a lot cleaner of a sand. It had virtually no foam from adding it and minimal clouding. The drawback is that it works out to $.80/lb, but it will be delivered right to your door and you get handy 3.5g buckets with lids to boot. I figure with the buckets it works out to $.65/lb. So it is about twice the price, but none of the hassle. Figure what your hourly wage is and convert that to 3-5 hours of your time between searching, calling, and driving to get it. I decided that it just wasn't worth it.

Used to be a few places that shipped SD and even with s&h it was less than $15. Someone is making money off this stuff. It isn't us here in the West coast though :(

I've requested 5 bags, so include my screen & real name if you're starting a list to send him.

Oh, here's my take on the price of sand:

Southdown:
50# for $15 = 0.30 per pound

Best price I found for oolithic:
40# for $24 = 0.60 per pound

Worst price for Carib Sea live (at Petco I think):
20# for $30 = 1.50 per pound

Worst price for Carib Sea live (at another chain store):
20# for $40 = 2.00 per pound

So, I can save $75 for 250# if I go with SD, and my tank will be cycling for a while anyways.

Tag on three bags @$15ea for me if we get up anywhere near a pallette. I am not holding my breath though.

I would also post a call on Aqualink, Reefs.org, and the ReefCentral classified boards to find all possible Bay Area locals who are looking for sand.

I'll put you guys down for the order.

I'd thought I'd give BARE members first crack at this before posting in the classified.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Here is the lastest:

Cool,I have sold almost three pallets so far but I have 4 more pallets coming in next week if all goes well.
Wilson whats your address and I can see how I will get it up there and when I can do it.

PS. I would also like to see if I could get the word out that I will be looking for some sps frags to trade or buy.

Reefer6 raised his price to $22 for a 50# bag (check here) (http://www.reefcentral.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87852&pagenumber=2). For that price, I'll buy the nicer sand from Eddie at Tropical Paradise. Cancel my order unless Reefer6 lowers the price back down to $15.

I also saw that reefer6 increased his price in another posting. I've emailed him confirming the price and I'm waiting for his response.
