There is a new Coral farm that has just started shipping their frist frags recently. They are Coarl Culture Okinawa and they do all LPS, SPS, Softies, AC rock etc. They don't have a website at the moment, but from the look of their promo material they are pretty big.

Matt

Ive been in this thread quite a bit, and someone in Tokyo chimed in and mentioned "there is a new place in Okinawa called Coral Culture Okinawa"
-said they seem like a large scale business, but have yet to have a website. Anyone know of such place, or anyone with with japaneese speaking skillls able to call an information source? -or even call PPM and ask them or something?

Another coral farm... :D

Reading that post, It would be really cool to set up a prop system. I think I would have more fun building it than maintaining it though. That and I don't know if I could afford the electricity to go along with it.

Hi, I am new to RC, but have been chatting with Jeff in PM about how to set up my new tank. I live in Tokyo and have been scouring the net for good sites.

http://www.cpfarm.com/ <-- this is a place in Ishigaki-jima that farms their own corals and rock. (The page is only in Japanese, but I can translate parts for you if you like.)

I plan to write a much longer introductory post once my tank arrives but thought I might post this first. Looking forward to chatting with you guys. :)

Just to add: I searched up coral farming and found these press releases for Aqua Culture Okinawa: http://www.okiden.co.jp/news/05052601.pdf and http://www.okiden.co.jp/news/060525.pdf (both in Japanese) which is probably what the guy is speaking of.

Well, in the other thread the gentelman mentioned the magazine, ive been to Jusco and Book Mart (off base) and neither have a copy. Im hoping either 1. someone will catch glimpse of where its located or can identify where its located off of the video clip the guy posted in the thread or 2. he replies back to my PM about where it is. I for some reason LOVE coral farms. I wanna check this place out!

Not sure if this is a corporate headquarters or the actual farm but the press release says that it is located at 5-22-6 Masa-Minato, Urasoe-shi Okinawa. That should get you at least to someone who can tell you more.

You're in luck! They have a system for letting people in to see the facilities. Monday to Saturday 10am-4 pm, and it says they are even searching for interns. (For what, I do not know). Here is the contact info:

?Z?Š?F?§901-2131?@‰«“ꌧ‰Y“YŽs–q?`ŒÜ’š–Ú22”Ô6?† (5-22-6 Masa-Minato, Urasoe-shi Okinawa)
?@Tel?F098-871-1820
?@Fax?F098-871-1821
?@e-mail?Finfo@aquaculture.co.jp

If you like, I can call them, but since I don't live in the Okinawa area, I probably wouldn't be of much use to getting (much less communicating) road directions.

vest0830

I shot them an email this morning about the internships which the guy in the other thread had posted about. -I also asked them how to get to the place..and here is what I got:

Hi
My name is Eiko Taira of Director.
Everyone is OK at the internship.

But after it comes to our company, and talks, let's decide it.
Our company is in Makininato fishing port. Interior of Makininato car practice place.

My cellular phone is 070-5818-3812.

Its down around LTO....

I actually gave them a call since I didn't feel that the reply you got was very helpful.

The internship is about two weeks long and allows a person to help out with the coral farming. If you would like to visit the facilities, you may do so during the hours that they are open, granted that they aren't too busy. (I would give them a call first.)

As for directions, since I am not from Okinawa, I am not sure if this will be helpful:

the location is near Makiminato driving school. Take route 58 and continue onto Makiminato Gyoko. Since most people get lost from this point, they suggested calling once you get close.

Hope this is helpful.

Frank, Call me. I know exactly where this area is at. I used to fish there all the time and got an uncle who docks his boat there.

vest0830
07/06/2006, 06:46 AM
Yup. its right at a boat dock. The wife and I did a little recon run last night to find the place. Im hoping to go down there either tommorow or Saturday, but its not looking very good. Maybe tommorow, we shall see.

So the directions...
Take 58 south. Go past Futema gate 1 (the gate on 58) and continue south. The first brige you come to dont go over the brige. go off to the right and go under the bridge. (A&W root beer shop will be under the bridge on the left, and NEO sports will be in front of you) there is an intersection (I believe 153) and its a stoplight. at this stoplight make a Right. then the next stoplight you come to, make a left. at this intersection there will be a family mart on the corner. the street kinda curves right, (stay right) you will pass a driving school training area on the left, and on the right will be a bunch of steel beams/wall. continue until it T's. at the T make a left. You will come to a gate. Go through the gate and then there will be a fishing dock on your right, and the water will be right there also. Continue to the road goes right (but dont go right) and the coral farm will be on your left side in a fence. It kinda sits back a little and there is a tiny sign on the door. Thats it!

If you go around the corner you will see 3 green houses. thats the accuall farm. Kinda makes PPM look like a shack.

Another way down to the place, from foster, follow the signs to the Okinawa Convention Center/Tropical Beach. continue south past the place, until you come to the stoplight with the family mart on your RIGHT. Make a right and then your on your way. (continue the directions from the family mart as mentioned above)

you are essencially heading twords the 2 red white and blue towers that are just before you get to Naha. The shop is accually at the base of those towers.

I hope this helps!

I got time to join this forum, nice to meat you all.

I am doing a part time job at the company above (actually, the name is AquaCultureOkinawa). My english ability is not 'pretty good' but it is welcome anyone to visit here, and I will try to show this facility.

Anyway, recently we got a URL address, but unfortunately english page is not prepared yet.

I hope to see you on this facility, regards!

Customer visiting this facility could buy coral pieces, we just started to sell corals on this April. Anyway, you could enjoy this facility as a small aquarium (free, but much smaller than Tyuraumi-aquarium ;P ), so please visit us.

It's nice to see you again, Frank-san!

My wife and I will soon be comming down there again. We recently purchased a larger tank, it will soon be ready for more coral. :)

By the way, in my opinion, your faculity is by far a better place to visit than the aquarium up north...for the coral aspect. :)

I remember when my sister and I went to Okinawa and we hopped in cab near Nago and asked the guy to take us somewhere "cool." The guy said that a lot of young people hang out at Jusco. Being that I didn't know what Jusco was, I was intrigued. (Apparently there is one somewhat close to me, but I never go.) He then told me also that I should see the aquarium. I passed and to this day, can't believe that he took me to the Walmart of Okinawa to hang out . . . . I should have gone to the aquarium instead.

I'd love to check this coral place out though. If I can get away from the office that is.... it's been impossible to get out of here before 11 pm on most nights, if not 1 am....

If we meet at the shoppette parking lot, that would be pretty ideal. If we meet/leave around 11:30 that will put us there at the noon time-frame. I will email them and let them know we will be down there.
