Hello.

I am setting up a new reef tank and the cycle is complete. I was planning on adding blue legged hermits, turbo snails, etc. It is a 75gl tank. I have had reef tanks for 10yrs. My question is this: is there still a benefit to adding blue legged hermits and turbo snails? Or should I be investing my money in something else?

Thanks!

I have about one crab a gallon (dwarf blue leg, scarlet reef, and dwarf red tip) and 1 snail per 2 gallons (Margarita and Nerites) in a 50. Probably too many hermit crabs but I dont have any problems with them. They are a great clean up crew (fun to watch too).

I have about 3 hermits in a 180. I have 2 cleaner shrimp, a few nassarius snails, and lots of bristle worms which serve the same scavenger function as hermit crabs.

I have several types of algae eating snails and asterina starfish to take care of the algae.

If you can find snails that reproduce in your tanks, you'll save a lot of critters in the long run.

Best of luck,
