I wouldn't say they are bad a lot of people run them. I didn't have good luck running mine all the time but still use it to clear the water...

I was using ozone with nice results. My hair algae started going away water cleared up nicely. One must be careful though with ozone. It must be filtered over AC ,both the water and air outlets, to prevent any excess escaping into the aquarium and outside air.

Well u either run your ozone through your skimmer or a ozone reactor. Either way you have the water output empty into a container with A C in it. Also do the same to the exaust air.
