i'm new to reef keeping and wanted some information about feeding soft corals.

i have:
1) small xenia
2) very small button polyp colony
3) 2 mushrooms
4) very small star polyp
5) neon green finger leather

all of these are in a 40 breeder with a 250w 14k MH. all of my water parameters are good except my nitrate, which is about 20 ppm. Ca is 430 and dKH is around 10. aside from these, there is a very small montapora frag and a newly aquired favite along with a coral beauty and flame hawkfish.

the LFS said i don't need to worry about feeding the soft corals, but they have been wrong before. do i need to feed any of the above soft corals? if so, what should i feed and how do i do it?

thanks in advance for any suggestions you folks can give.

Well, it seems that all of these you listed host zooxanthallae(they produce food through photosynthesis.) However, the brown button ployps, xenia and Green star polyps enjoy a treat of frozen cyclopeeze, even though it isnt necessary. Out of the five you listed, the Brown Buttons will most likely take anything you give them. My colonies of BBP will take brine, mysis and even krill. Hope this helps

thank you very much. i'll probably do the cyclopeeze since my favite will also appreciate that.

thanks again !!!!
