Welcome Paul. Tell us a little about your 225. Is it fish only? Reef?

I hear ya about the tank crashes. I had an incident or two last summer that set the tank back pretty bad. After some other problems between then and now I think it is just starting to really bounce back (just in time for the heat again!)

Nice tank. You could probably benefit from a little more rock, but I really like the open look as you have it now. When you say the top is cracked, do you mean the top of the tank (the bracing) or that you have a cover which is cracked?

Paul,

Welcome and glad to hear you are back into it even after a major crash (we've all been there before).

Hey, how about some more pics like of your sump, etc? Looks like you are running inductors (spelling) to pump up your internal water circulation?

top of the tank (the bracing) is cracked (the tank get to warm in the hood
i liked to cut off the top of the tank and do more of a open setup euro style
the tank is 3/4 inch thick acrylic all the way around
what i really need is a new sump
anyone got one laying around ?
Minh thanks for the welcome. just new to nvr, not reef central

ok here is a very old picture when i just setup the tank
i made the stand myself
the ampmaster is no longer setup to the sump (it leaks on that end)
i have the ampmaster on a closed loop
im just testing the educator i have 4 of them
when i buy a new sump im going to change the plumping
im not sure if the ampmaster would run 4 educator on a closed loop
or i should drop 2 mag 2400 in the sump and run them from there
any thoughts? ot advice ?
i would like to move the plants out of the tank and into the sump when replaced
so heres what i need to do
1. replace sump (need to find) move plants out of tank
2.change over the icecap from vho to t5 (need endcaps and a new wire harness + new bulbs to go with my 400 watt 20k
3. change plumbing to work with educators (on a closed loop )and have less pumps in the sump
4.move the 100 pounds of live rock curing in the garage and redo the rock work
this picture is over 6 years old and looks much more dirty under the tank

I would try to go with a Sequence Dart rather than two Mag's. The sequence will consume a little less power and might make things a little cleaner, plumbing wise, under your tank. That is if you have the room!

Also, i have a 55 Gal. glass tank sitting around waiting for a new home. You can have it if you want it.

Welcome!

I wouldn't advise cutting anything on your tank. If it has a center brace there is a good reason for it. If your center brace is cracked then you should look into getting it repaired. I don't know exactly what the recommended procedure is but it if you don't fix it your tank will probably start to bow out, and could potentially come apart on you :eek2:

its been cracked for over 1 year
when i had the tank made i had 3/4 acrylic all the way around
there is 0 bowing its still holding fine
i think the crack is more from heat then anything else.
when i talk of cutting it off i mean the glueing more of a open top on it
the openings are small to me for the size of the tank it is

Thats cool. 3/4" is pretty thick, you could posiibly get away with just eurobracing. Is the top 3/4" thick too? If not it wouldn't be too hard to router the openings larger - don't take that as advice from me to do it, I'm just saying that it could be done :D
