Porcupine puffers in general will eat shrimp, crabs, snails... pretty much any invert.

Of course individual fish do individual things. I had a porc who never even looked at a snail but ate any crab or shrimp he could find.

I just read your post in New to the Hobby and I didn't realize you were talking about a 30 gallon tank.

A porc puffer is WAY to large for a 30 gallon tank. They get to be HUGE fish. They are also messy eaters and it's likely that you'd never be able to keep the water in a 30 clean enough for them.

I'd say you should pass on this fish.

Depending on what just what species the porcupine puffer is, it could get 20 inches to about 3 feet :eek1:

Hey all, I have a porc puffer he is a spiney box puffer and I have had for about 5 or 6 months now and he has not eaten a snail, crab, or shrimp. I have to really little cleaner shrimp that he does not touch. Once and a while he will nip at a snails shell, but I think it's more for fun than anything, because he will just gently nip the back of the shell only one tome and that is it.

This guy eats anything put in his tank, fingers included. He is getting BIG.
