hey,

i have about three different colonies of star poylps. weirdest thing; they grow and spread but hardly open. when they are open they are certainly not fully extended. has anyone ever experianced this? i don't even understand where they're getting the energy in order to spread.

what could effect the extension on GSP? My water quality is good;
NO3=0, PO2=0, 250w 10k XM's.

I had mine under 250w MH, and mine didnt expand much, or grow. Now I moved them into another tank with T5's and they are growing like weeds. So I think you may need to lower them, or move them into a more shaded area.

I have had just the opposite. I kept mine under 400 watt halides, very close to the light and they grew fast and were very long and extended. They also recieved a good amount of flow.

Do yours get much flow?

I'd check your water quality.

thanks for the responses!

I'll definitely try lowering them. I also have a 20l with a 15k 250w and the light is high above the water; probably 15" or so. The GSP are extended fully, I just never made the connection.

I don't think i have a water quality issue, i keep healthy and growing sps in the tank.

What about flow?

Oh, sorry.
I would say that the area that houses the gsp is more on the lower end of the spectrum, i do have a piece of it I can move. I'll try putting it in a higher flow area and what happens.

I would try more flow before decreasing light.

Thanks, I will.

Mine are blasted with flow and they grow like weeds even though they are not in full light.

High flow makes mine grow like crazy with long polyp extension.
