What's your preferred method to raise KH without significantly impacting other water parameters?

Dan, make up the alk part of the 2 part recipe, and add that according to the calculator on Randy's forum.

Todd, I figured that would end up being the solution. It sounds like I'll be using the Alk portion only for a little while. The link within the article linked above, http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm
does a good job of describing how much to use. What it doesn't say is how fast you can safely increase the Alk level.

The alk can be added all at once, and then just use the balanced 2 part. Add it to your sump so that it mixes well.
