harmful or not. I will work on a clearer pic but this baby is huge. And how do i trap it. Standard bristle worm trap is I think a little small as its about the diameter of a pencil head. How I missed this i dont know. My neighbor spotted it. I said oh, thats my brittle stars arm, and then looked closer and said holy s&*^%^%. No it not. Help.

Unless you've been getting Caribbean specimens or rock, I wouldn't worry. He's probably a Pacific bristleworm, which is an agile and useful detritus eater.

Sk8r, What can yo tell me? I have both Carrib rock and spec.
I also have many LG and SM, even brighter red bristleworms. I saw a small red one eating some zoa's. I have a pic of the damage but, the worm cut out when I got the tri-pod.

Really havent gotten anything new. And nothing being munched on either. Just want to be sure. It reallylooks like a large version of a bristle worm.

I too have had problems with bristeworm hitchikers. The pale pink ones seem to be mostly innocuous, the ones that are black and white with lots of bunches of white bristles I have had munch on my reef critters. Color of course is not definitive! I look for damage and try to nab the perpetrator. I have two methods up my sleeve for getting them:
1) Put the rock in RO water for a minute and then shake it. They usually let go of the rock under hyposalinity conditions, but may not necessarily come out.
2) Get a piece of rigid tubing that's large enough to put a pushpin in the end. You now have a custom bristleworm skewer. Go hunting in semi-dark conditions.

lol, id need a harpoon for this one. Its like a foot long and about as round as a pencil eraser. Maybe slightly bigger
Ok, well, i will check him out tonight and see if i can invent a trap for him.

Looks like a fireworm I had in a tank a couple of years back. Guy was about 14 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.. great scavengers and never bothered anything. Unless you get one of the rare 'hunter' varieties, let him be and be thankful you have an additional helper.

Greyish blue/pinkish body... pinkish edges and large bristles on the edges?? Probably a fireworm.
