I just used an old 29 gl tank as my sump.. I went to HD and purchased some 1/4 thick plastic, cut it to size for baffles and glued it in.. Takes no time and is cheap.. No bells and whistles though.

The refuge in that auction looks like a lot of $$ for very little. Just DIY one or add a 20-30 gallon tank to your system. Here is a pic of the 20 gallon refugium and 20 gallon xenia scrubber I used on my 75 a few years back:

well i didnt get it but still thinking about it. as well as the DIY option. at 200 dollars for set up i think its a decent deal
For DIY (tell me if im wrong)
50+ for a return pump and plumbing
20+ for a small PC light
30+ for a tank
50+ for a overflow
misc plumbing ? 10-20
10 silicone
10-20 for baffles
so aprox 170 +/- some depending on what equipment bought
plus my time (valuable) and knowledge (none) and i think the prefab one is decent deal.
next time they list one im gonna try to get it around the 200 range. if not it can be had at there site for 247.

you also have to figure that you can also make a bigger sump fuge for less than the cost of that system. aslo the pump that it comes with i have heard some bad things about them. can't say first hand or anything just what i have read about others that had them. they run hot, noisy, and sometimes don't start up if not very well maintained. as for the HOB overflow have you thought about drilling your tank. i could help you if you go that route i drilled 2 holes in my 75 gal. 1 for the drain and one for the CL.

well i got the set up. for a steal IMO
now will see if once again i have thrown money out the window but im hoping ill be happy with it. ill let you all know if i go to the meeting how well i like it if it gets here before than.
otherwise ill post pics when its up and running.
ive seen it go for 200-275 on ebay. thay sell it on their site for 270ish but on sale 247. i got it for 160

Just a quick FYI, Sams club in Sioux Falls has the Lights of America flood lights that use the 65w 6500K bulb priced at $14 each. They make a great light for a fuge.

Would three of these lights be enough for Xenia?

Hm. and how would they be for just a regular tank? say, maybe a new 65 gallon tank with hood? ;)

I am using one over my sump and I have Xenia, zoo's, GPS, and even a Monti sps that is growing. The only problem with them is they are very yellow.

I have 3 over my fuge..... must be overkill huh.....
I was thinking about dropping some xenia in there to help with nutrient export......

Hm. I'll have to look at them in action before I go charging out across the parking lot to Sam's.

Yes but yours is still yet a nice thinking "outside tge Box" idea...wait I am a LFS and should not be educating people=lost $$. Yea right...education = better reef keepers in the long run= happy people spend more $$ and time with there ecosystems.

Any quality issues with the Lights of America fixtures lately? I bought one and it lasted about 2 months of 24 hour use before I started having ballast issues which made the LOA fixture act like a strobe light. My small fish room at the time looked like a disco when that light started acting up. I think I bought that light at Menard's in Sioux Falls for about $35.

However, that was maybe 5 years ago. They probably have made some improvements since then.

any feedback on these lights is useful, since I'm looking at buying a new lighting system in the relative near future. Actually, 2 new lighting systems. A retro fit for my 29 gallon hood, and a new light system for the 65 gallon I got from Nate. Still up in the air as to what to get though.

I just purchased three of them ($12 or 14 each...) One or two will be used on my sump/refugium. The other two will help light the fish room.. I have no experinence with them but I would think that depending on the intended use they are worth a shot based on the expense. I plan to run mine only when the mains are off at night.

CHUCKSD, keep us updated on how those LOA lights work out. At $14 its certainly worth checking. I looked at that picture somebody linked and the case and lens look different than the LOA fixture I bought 5 years ago, so maybe its a redesign.
