Having a devilish time trying to post pics of my tank. I don't have them on a website (although I suppose that could be incentive to use my alotted personal webspace with my ISP....)

Hm, looks like I need to do that. How convenient that they have a link to "How do I post and image?" and I've been staring at it for hours now. :jester:

Lunch, how do you take screen shots like that?

Creslin, the biggest problem most people have when trying to upload a picture is the file size limit imposed by Reef Central. You can directly upload a picture into your RC gallery and then link that picture into a thread. But you first need to resize you picture so it is small enough to pass the size restriction. I don't remember what the size limitation is for non-premium members, but I think I remember it being 50k. If you are using Windows XP there is a very easy to use image resizer (http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe). Click on this link and install it on your computer. Then you just right click on any picture saved on your computer and select "resize". You then choose what size to resize the picture to until you have one that meets the size requirement for your RC gallery. You can then upload the pic to your RC gallery. After that, you can follow Lunchbucket's tutorial on how to post that pic in a thread.

Another option is to upload the picture to your personal webpage or a file hosting service like photobucket. The nice thing about this is that you are not limited to any file size. However, I do prefer to keep my pictures under 100k and 640x640 or smaller so that they fit within anybody's computer window without the need for scrolling and also so that they upload fast for people with slow internet connections. Once you have a file uploaded to your web space or a file hosting service you can follow Lunchbucket's tutorial. The only thing that is different is that you need to right click on the picture and copy the URL to paste into the image tag.

Let us know if you have any other questions. I too had a heck of time getting pictures posted. But after you have done the first one, it is all downhill.:)

Travis - when you web broser frames what you want...hit control and print screen buttons. this saves that picture in your computers memory. you need to then open a new picture i use windows photo editor and do a paste. that pic will be the screen you snapped a pic of

i was hoping you would post about that image resizer. i couldn't remember the website.

tomorrow i'll clean up that page i did REAL quick and the photo resizer link that Travis provided. i'll do one w/ using RC gallery and one using your own webpage.

off to bed 4:45 is only 4hrs and 45min away :(

As I mentioned in the last meeting, I'm using IrfanView (free picture viewing software available at Download.com) and to resize my pictures, I just open the picture and Save As. On the right side is a slide bar that tells you what % quality to save the picture as. Maybe more complicated than the MS Image Resizer, but more simple for me, since I"m already using IrfanView as my image software. *shrug*

The other thing IrfanView does is those screenshots. I use Alt + Print Screen to save it to the clipboard, then open IrfanView and paste it into a new document.

ok, here's one of my favorite fish, a gold weatherfish, Herbie. Why call him Herbie? Because he does figure 8's on the glass at night (if you've ever seen the Herbie movies, you remember the kid that calls Number 53 "ocho"). He looks like an eel, but he's actually a fish, a loach.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/116014Gold_weatherfish01.jpg

yeah, he kinda looks like it. He's actually a fish found in rice paddies, and he has a half lung so that he can breathe outside of water for a short time. He also can secrete a mucus so that he doesn't dry out when the paddies dry up. Not that he's invicible, far from it. The locals find him to be a delicacy. ^_^ He is VERY sensitive to the barometric temperature, and when a storm is coming in, he goes absolutely NUTS. Hence the name weatherfish. Here's another pic of him. He kinda washes out in the flash of the camera, but that shows that he's a bit pink too. http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/116014Gold_weatherfish03-med.jpg

Actually, they mention it by name if you go to the gallery section. It's up at the top where it sez ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS: blah blah blah blah etc etc etc .....use www.Imageresizer.com or www.IrfanView.com to resize your pictures. If only I read all the instructions before asking dumb questions..... :D

Yeah, I know. It's one reason for changing it once in a while. Also, I sorta feel fresh (?) if I alternate it once in a while. And I have more than a few fun pics to use, so why not? Other than the confusion factor of "who the hell....oh, it's just creslin"

creslin2
05/09/2006, 07:00 PM
well, since I started this post, guess It's mine. I'll have to get some pics now of my fish.

went out and bought some new fish in the last couple weeks. Got a monodactylis for my brackish tank, to accompany my lonely knight goby. maybe he'll inspire me to continue on to marine when he gets bigger. (supposed to grow to be 10"!)

also stopped by to see Ben in his native environment, and picked up a replacement for my algae eater that was supplied to me by an independent aquarium maintenance company. Well, he just plain turned up missing one day. and the algae has been getting worse, so I decided to get some oto cats to help take care of that. Also, picked up some gold gouramis that were up for adoption. last owner was moving, so just brought them in. Two of the otos are in my 20 hex, along with the 2 gold gouramis. Maybe they'll bully the barbs that inhabit the tank now, but that doesn't bother me too much, since I've kinda wanted to move on from them anyway. I'm looking at the otos right now, and they are happier than pigs in mud. The gouramis are exploring, and seem to be very happy (they're a mated pair, I'm told) Well, I'm gonna bust out the camera and see if I can get some pics.

creslin2
05/09/2006, 07:28 PM
Ok. well, I found out that the brackish fish LOVE to have their picture taken. And the gold gouramis HATE it. couldn't find the otos. must be busy eating, as you'll see in the pics. Man, they're gonna be FAT! :D

So. Here's the uncooperative pair first.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h317/Creslin2/gouramipair01.jpg
Yeah, those dark flecks are algae. like I said, FAT otocinclus.

creslin2
05/09/2006, 07:33 PM
and here's the very personable goby of mine. Man, he just bounces around the tank all day long! almost feel like I should be teaching him tricks or something. He's more active than most puppies! Again, algae. but I cleaned the tank after this pic was taken.

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h317/Creslin2/knight01.jpg

creslin2
05/09/2006, 07:34 PM
Here's another pic of him, no algae in the way this time. ;) Also shows how fat he's getting.

creslin2
05/09/2006, 07:35 PM
here's a pic in front of one of the plants, but maybe a better full body shot without all the algae on the glass (just on the plant in the background) *covers face in shame*.

creslin2
05/09/2006, 07:38 PM
and here's a pic of both of them. Hard to get a good pic of the mono, he swims around so much. I think I took 24 pics of him, and this was the only one that turned out well. I think the camera was starting to get to them, so I just went with what I had. *shrug*

creslin2
05/12/2006, 02:47 PM
sheesh. Well, those barbs in my 20 gallon hex are no longer a concern. The gold gouramis have pretty well turned the whole tank into a graveyard. With the exception of the otos. I see one alive for sure. Dunno about the other, might be hiding on the backside of the tank or in the ornament castle. *shrug* Gotta go pull dead fish.

Whats up Travis, well im back, i was on my two-week relief vacation. Guam was a blast, the underwater world there was very exciting, i managed to capture some 300+ photos will my UnderWater camera.

Gotta love the success of your club, maybe you'll have to send me the "start a club recipe" and ill mimick the success over here in Rapid, i see the name change scared away all the other RC guy, lol. Ive been bugging the LFS to start one up, i dont really want to show off my tank until i get it out of my bedroom, kinda wierd having strangers in your room sitting on your bed to look at your tank, lol. But ill be moving this June, so should be in the basement fishroom after that, then ill really be hammering you with questions, like the old days when i used to have 3,000 post, lol

Hey Jiddy, good to see you back again. Shoot me a link when you put up some of your dive pics. Feel free to PM me or just start a new thread here and we can discuss how to get a club going. Actually it would probably be best to just start a new thread so other SFAAS club members can chime in too. I only played a small part in getting our club running. It was the work and dedication of a few of us. It started slow (3 people at the first meeting) but you have to start somewhere, right?:) Now back to the currently scheduled program...;)
