Those are beautiful photos! And your fish is gorgeous! Been thinking about doing search on anthias...seems like they're supposed to be difficult?? Slow eaters or something...would sure like to have some...

Thanks everybody,

I'm having as much fun taking pictures of my tank as I am actually keeping the tank! Two hobbies rolled into one what a bargin (not!) :D Now I wonder if I should be saving up for a Cannon D60........ ;)

Colin,

I'm still mulling over the octo idea, reading up on the subject etc. We have to move house this summer so setting up a new tank is not really a good idea at the moment (not to mention lack of space for another one). I'm dreading the thought of moving my reef tank as it is without anything else to worry about. When we've moved though...... ahhh, who knows ;) I'll be picking your brains about the octos then :p

Darn it, I missed the wierd nature program last night :(

Marie,

Apparently some Anthias adapt to tank life relatively easily (such as the Lyretail Anthias) and err, some very rarely do (such as the Purple Anthias). I started mine off on live brineshrimp and then quickly moved on to frozen mysis etc. I am fortunate in being able to feed them as often as I wish which presently is 4 or 5 times a day. They would like to be fed more often though and beg for food every time I look in the tank  I'm having to resist the temptation for fear of having to deal with a huge algae outbreak (there's more than enough to contend with as it is......) I hope that I can keep these beautiful fish for many a long year.

Hey, hasn't anybody else got any Anthias pics to show off??? Somebody must have, please post them :D

Regards

Lisa

When the unidentified male matured,he became the dominent fish.He swims his U-shaped spawning dance at the coopers. The coopers isn't into his advances!

Everytime I'm on the road, my favorite photo threads seem to pop up on this board. Hope I'm not too late. This is one of my Bi-colors.

Hi Everyone,

Those Anthias pics are awesome! Those fish have to be some of the nicest looking around. I have always wanted to keep a group of them but I do not have the proper tank setup to keep them healthy.

Thanks for sharing them.

64Ivy,

Great pics, and beautiful fishes. Are they in the same tank together?

64Ivy : Bartlett's anthias is a smaller and supposedly "easier"species of anthias to maintain. Is this your finding? I NEVER see this species offered for sale in the LFS. They always have the lone male squareblock or squamipinnis.

Yep. Same tank. It's a 500g though. In total, I think I have 9 Bartletts and 5 Bi-colors (although if I count them ten times, I'll get ten different totals) and they have all coexisted peacefully for almost three years now. They seem to like at least two small feedings a day, lots of room to swim, and a lot of current to swim against. They have also benefitted from whatever they can catch from the refugium and several have grown to nearly 4". Around this area, I see Bartletts offered for sale (in numbers) maybe three times a year. Bi-colors even less often. And both are fairly expensive when they do show up. I do see Bartletts listed on the Marine Center's website almost all the time however.

a pic of a female squarespot (purchased with the male). Sadly, the LFS's don't feed them well...If they don't find good homes fast, they seem to waste away.

A lousy pic of the male squarepsot down the length of my aquarium...

Great, more pics :D Beautiful fish!

I'm curious as to why there aren't more Lyretail Anthias pics posted. I thought that they were the most commonly kept Anthias. Until recently they're the only ones I've ever seen for sale at my LFS.

Mark,

Yo, nice pics as always! :D

I think that it's about time you showed us some new ones actually. Go on, wrestle that camera off your brother! We wanna see new pics ;)

Orkspace,

Thanks :D The camera I use is a Fuji FinePix 6900Z and that's it. It's a great camera and very easy to use.
