I am thinking about getting my 1st octo setup, I have been reading alot of old threads which have been very helpful.

I have few very basic questions:

I have been told that octos need 'reef like" water coditions, i.e. no nitrate, is this true?

Do I need to add any reef supplemts, iodine, Ca+, etc.?

Is it true that octos should be keep at 70degF?

Are there any real good octo books out there?

Thank you very much

One last thing, I am planning on a pretty basic set up for a Common tropical octo., is there a general rule on tank size for this species?

Welcome Mad Scientist

Well Octos do like good water conditions similar to reef conditions. Some octopuses are more hardy than others.
As far as temp gos it really depends on the species.Tropical species like warmer tempertures like O.briareus and species from bali and warmer waters. Species from the pacific like O.bimaculoides and bimaculatus perfer a cooler temp.
A good ceph book is Cephalopods A world Guide by mark norman. Is a good ID guide. There are no books on care right now.
As far ar tank size goes I recommend 30g and up for any species.

Thanks for the help, I'm sure I'll have more questions as I begin to further plan my setup.
