Is the craftics 33 (equivelant to weld-on 16) or the craftics acrylic solvent cement(weld-on 4 equivelant) cool to use?
It say's that the 33 will not only bond but fill small gaps and quick drying.

why dont you just get the weldon 3 at that same site. only thing to make sure is that the shipping is not really expensive. i think that it might be labeled as a biohazard or something and they have to ship it special

Weld-on is a solvent which means it does not glue the acrylic but it melts it to join two pieces together. Now if you want to bond acrylic to plastic then you need #16 - #40 and I do recommend #40 if acrylic and plastic.
Some people use #3 and then they use #16 to go over it again.

Ok, cool thanks Mo. that is good info for the furture. Knowing that give me a lot more options for future DIY's involving acrylic and plastic.
I need tomake a correction, yesterday I thought I bought the weld-on the weld-on 4. I got the craftic's brand (craftics acrylic solvent) equivelant to the weld-on 4, and I hope it works.
I have a question, what are the different ways I can cut acrylic (1/4") to shorten it. I need to take off about a 1/4", and the only tools I have with me are a hack saw, and a hand drill with various bits including bits for plastic?

any of those tools are not going to cut the acrylic straight enough for the glue to bond
you need either a table saw or a router

The end I need to cut is not being bonded to anything. It is at the top where the overflow holes/slots go, it is to tall. The sides that are being bond are very straight, no jagged edges at all.

Ok, I will practicde on some scrap first to see how the strokes go.
How far from the top does the overflow have to be. I was thinking up to the inside edge of the rim ( part that touches the water surface), and the making the holes/slots about 1/4" inch long from top of overflow, would that work?
