i finally found the perfect addition to my tank. a month or two, i lost my orange spotted goby, yellow coral goby, and a tomato due to some unknown disease. now that its been a pretty long time, i decided to add 2 yasha gobies with a pistol shrimp into my tank, along with a female tomato, that has survived the unknown disease. i'll post pictures later, they are pretty cool to watch :O

i'm a big fan of yasha gobies. i don't have any myself, but as long as i bring my lazy self to upgrade to a bigger tank, they are top on my list. such beautiful creatures. please do post a picture once you get them.

this maybe off topic, but is it too late to add another tomato clown (i want to have a pair of clowns too, just like the gobies) into my tank? then my tank would be complete :|

That is too funny the way the shrimp pops out at the end, it doesn't even phase the gobies. Cool man, makes me want a pair, they're really neat looking.

oh man, i love those guys!!! how deep is your sand bed? do you have to spot feed? or do the gobies bring food back for the shrimp? i'm curious to know about their behavior

please give us more info!!!! :)

i have a pretty deep sand bed (about 3 1/2 - 4 ") anyways, i dont spot feed them yet, because they are still very shy. whenever i walk near the tank, i'll have to walk like a cat (not makin any noises or big movements) but i think i'll spot feed in the future. and i think this is how the shrimp gets food. whenever the gobies are full, they'll leave the food infront of the hole untouched. then the pistol shrimp will come out, and grab the mysis shrimp with one of his claws, and drag it back into the hole.

do the goby and shrimp pairs require a deeper sand bed? i recently upgraded my 10 gal tank to a 15 gal tank and kept the same amount of sand. it covers the bottom pretty well, but it's definitely not 3' deep...should I add more sand before I try to get a goby/shrimp pair?

nah, u dont really need a deep sand bed. around 1 1/2 - 2" should be fine. as long as they feel safe, then its good enough

You may want to consider feeding the cave. I have a yashia haze now for several months. They are small but need to eat. If you feed the cave..they will start to come out and grab some food.
