Looks interesting , appears they'll be competing with the Aqualight.

BTW Arlo, it's OK to post about products and link if you have no financial interest in the products success (or failure) ;) .

how much are they?

That's definitely going to be some competition for the Aqualight. Looks like it sit directly over the center of the tank as opposed to the Aqualight that needs to be modified to fit a standard 10 to 20 gallon tank. Hopefully the price will be competetive as well. the Aqualight runs around $150 I believe.

It was $220-250 when I was considering the Aqualight a few months back. I think this JBJ light is small enough to fit on even smaller tanks.

This does look very nice. I just ordered an Aqualight 150 also (don't know about that $150 price Sugar, everyone I found was $240+). I am glad that others are realizing this clamp-on idea is great for smaller tanks where you don't want something hanging or a big hood. Let's hope the price and performance is up to JBJ standards!

Very nice setup, I like the very small compact design. If the price shown in the previous posts are correct these will be on almost everybodies 10g.

Yeah you're right, there is a U-tube on the back of the picture they have. Could either be a chiller or canister filter..

yes they are running a new type of chiller, i have seen it on nanocustoms.com. it mounts onto the canopy or any surface, and it is powered by the powerhead (water flows through it thanks to this), but it is very efficient

I've been looking at the aqualights but found these on Ebay at 150.00 for the 150 watt. It looks like a great deal but I'd feel better if I could see a review or something before buying a pair for my 72.
Anyone see any betta test versions anywhere?

Can the JBJ K-2 Viper be used on a 24 G Cube that has a canopy? Can the light be used to shine thru glass on the front side or does it only work when used directly above open water?

CamBarr
01/23/2006, 02:30 AM
it should only be used directly above the aquarium

springerhd

Will this light work on the finnex 20g m-tank?

If it works on the NC, I assume it would also work on the aquapod?

Thanks!

I have a 150w pre-ordered from Premium Aquatics. If you just e-mail or call them you can pre-order it. Granted, I had already paid for the Coralife one and it was BO'd, so when this was announced, I told them I'd just wait for this one...

01/31/2006, 09:22 AM
hey can you have Tridacna Maxima Clam with that light if so what watt would be good the 70 Watt / 14K
150 Watt / 14K

aural
01/31/2006, 10:57 AM
that depends on the size aquarium you are going to put it over, but per my experience, i'd put a clam under the 150.

mustang89
01/31/2006, 12:29 PM
it going to be a 12g nano

I'd still go with the 150. Maxima's like to be on the bottom in sand, so that 14" of water (round about 14") that the light has to go through - 70W just won't cut it with a maxima.

ok thanks alot ill go for the 150.

I was considering a 70w viper over 12g. I am a little worried about evaporation even with a 70w. With 150, I think it would start to get really bad especially in the summer.

Are you guys sticking to the stock bulb or upgrade? I'm not sure if I would want to keep the 70w 14k jbj bulb or upgrade to the 20k aqualine for another 40 dollars.

mustang89
02/15/2006, 09:31 AM
i would upgrade

I believe they aren't supposed to be released until next week or so. I"ve had mine pre-ordered for a while, so hopefully it will come soon!

would something like this work on a 20L gal?? Thats 30inches wide, i dont think that this would disperse the light enough...could i be wrong?

I'm thinking about one for my 5.5 I like the price of the 70w.

So far nanocustoms has the cheaper shipping. I think I'll go with them.

Mine just arrived... looks sweet!

Gonna have to mod my aquapod to accomodate the bracket, and I guess I'll have to get used to the little bit of play in a clamp on bracket, but the look is exactly what I wanted!

Live aquaria says the aqualight should be used over a glass hood. Is that true for the viper light?

Probably the safe way to go but I'm not sure if I'm gonna.

Pics, Springerhd! How's the reflector look? Which bulb did you get?

And, is nanocustoms the only one selling these? The prices went up and i'd rather buy from PA, but they don't seem to have them in stock...

Its ok I have it on a 10G and to adjust it right you have alot of light leaks out into the room..

Seemed like my 18W (2) 50/50 bulbs lit up the tank more..

For the money i guess its not bad. I went with it for the price, but have a sunpod on another tank and would reccomend that.

I think NC was the first to get them in stock, but think premium aquatics also has them now. I'd take a pic but its really not much to look at until I get my aquapod modded to mount it.

The reflector is a hammertone reflector.

Went with the standard bulb. Also got a 5x LED setup from NC that will fit perfectly on the arm for the light and will be my moonlight.
