Anyone experienced in framing? Want to get started on my basement at least so I can get electrical done, but not sure if I can start framing before permits are pulled or not. Can anyone tell me the process to get a building/basement finishing permit (or what ever they are called)???

You can start framing without a permit. As long as you dont put up sheetrock, you will be okay till you pull a permit. Not sure if you have done any framing before but, in the basement, you have to "float" the framing.

Thanks Russ, I've pulled all the code requirements so I've learned all about floating the walls, but I don't know how to actually pull the permit... Do you know the process or how much they cost?

You have to estimate the total cost of the project and that will determine how much the permit is. Im not sure about a homeowner permit, but usally they require some sort of a blueprint (just draw it up as much to scale) submitted.

You may be able to find some info at PPRBD.com.

Holy crap! I called and it's nearly endless phone prompts until you are finally transfered and then it's just an answering machine for the department. No wonder so many people build without permits!

Finally got through to someone! Looks like I have to have 3 seperate permits, building, electrical, plumbing and normally heating is a 4th but that's already done. :) Each one is 50 bucks so looks like 150 in permits... Not too bad!
