you got lots better picture than I could. Very nice job. Now I wish if Dr. Ron's site was up to find the ID but I'm sure it will be available somewhere soon.

They are in my little 5 gallon tank with clownfish babies and I see jellyfish hatch everyday. fisheRdelicous came over today and I told him that I can't get a picture of them with my camera so he picked them and did a good job on that too. I have tons of life in that little 5 gallon.

wow, very facinating. Awhile back I had read a couple of threads about jellyfish. Very interesting about how to care for them.

These are not hard but you really don't want that many in a tank and specially new once hatch everyday. The best view is when you see them swimming before they deattach from the rock.

mo, how big do they get
if they arent hard to keep, it would be cool to see if i could keep them alive
any sites with info?
i took the picture by puting them in a clear dish

Not sure about the size but if they are upside down then I have seen them really big...
If you want to keep them then here is my idea on how to keep them.

Setup a tank with airstone, use the light like the one I have (since you don't see them in the tank next to it where both rocks came from the same tank) and then come and get two rocks of them and put them there and enjoy and learn. Now you need a small tank and if you want I might have small tank around for you. I will be interested to see what you learn from them too. I think they are Cassiopea or upside down jellyfish but not sure.

do you have another 2 1/2 gallon tank
i think it would be cool to get them to grow

no, I don't have another one that size but they are about $5 at wall-Mart or you can use a tank I have in the garage and fix it. Is nice tank with one line crack on the back and is also drilled. I think is 7 gallon bowfront all glass.. bottom trim, top..

I have R. Shimek's Marine Invertebrates book. Cassiopeia frondosa (Upside-down Jellyfish pg. 42) will get up to 10" and the Cassiopeia xamachana (Mangrove upside-down Jellyfish pg. 43) will get up to 12". He recommends not putting them in a reef tank.

The idea of having one is really cool! I can see why people have more than one tank set up somethimes.

Thanks Sherry and I should grab a copy of that book too. I tried the website but is down. FRD if you want the whole rock you can setup a tank for them. I do have a picture of a big one somewhere (Fred took the picture )

WOW, that would be awesome!!!

Would it be okay in a 30 gallon frag tank and one small mean fish? Which by the way has no frags in it at the moment because of having the wrong lighting. I don't know what kind of fish he is. He hitch hicked in on some rock as an egg and grew from there. Incredible really, unfortunately, he became an aggressive fish so I took him from my main tank and threw him in the frag tank all by himself.

Sherry, is that fish kinda silvery color ?
I have the rocks with those jelly fish with 12 baby clown fish. Baby fish don't bother the hatched jelly fish. The light is regular light that comes with minibow and they did not grow under PC in the tank next to the first one.
FRD :If you take those rocka and put them in a tank with airstone then you will have more of them. I know my filter pump sucks them and kills them too.

The fish is white/silver during the day and has dark almost black strips going up and down it. At night there is barely any white/silver on him, in fact he blends in with the rocks very well. He is about 1 yr old. and attacked everything in the tank. He is about 1 1/2" to 2" in length and has been for a while now. His shape makes him look as if he should be a freshwater fish. If I can get a picture of him I will send it to you.

Long story short . . . if you think the jellyfish and the mean fish will be okay in the same tank (30 gallons) I would love a rock of them. Thank you!!

Sherry

If you have an idea what kind of fish he is I would love to know. I have spent hours looking at pictures of fish but never quite find him. I finally stopped looking thinking I would wait until he got bigger knowing that he could possibly change shape, size and colors as he grows.

I know what you talking about and I had three of them in my sump once, not sure where they came from and they did look like freshwater. They were so hardy that no matter what happened to that sump they survived. Not sure what they are and I did not have them in the main tank to see how bad they were. They were about 1/ 1/2" 2" and never grew more than that for me. Finally gave them to a friend not sure what he did with them. If you are going to the meeting I can grab a small rock for you.
