Cycling and starting growth

I was in the begginers only forum and they told me to come here. I asked what i needed to do to get growth on my rock and bacteria and they said for bigger tanks people put in shrimp etc. I was wondering what i should put in the tank

Do i have to buy the eggs to hatch them?

Any food you want to throw in will be fine. A few flakes of fish food is more than sufficient. You don't need to feed something fancy like frozen brine. And no, you don't need to hatch them.

All you are trying to do here is to add an ammonia source to start off the cycle. If you really wanted you could probably throw in cheerios, bacon, or even pee in the tank.
