Potassium Iodide purchase

I was thinking of making my own potassium iodide supplement solution for my soft corals mushrooms, xenis, etc. A single 16 oz bottle of 1% potassium iodide solution by SeaChemis around $7.

500 grams (about 1 pound) of pure (USP) potassium iodide will make 105 16 oz bottles of 1% solution (equal to $735 of off-the-shelf solution). 500g of potassium iodide costs $83 locally.

I can also get 100g online for under $30, including shipping. That'll make 21 16 oz bottles (=$147 off-the-shelf )

Is anyone interested in going halves or thirds on 100g or 500g with me?

Dan, do you test for iodine? if not, i would not recommend adding. most salt mixtures have enough to support your softies.

I do test. I don't do enough water changes to keep the levels up for the numbers of softies I have. I guess that's one of the downsides of DSBs--it's tempting to let the system keep running without maintenance.

Boy, you should see my coralline growth since I started using the home made Bionic recipe. I'm surprised to see little purple-red crusty growths on the glass every day (definitely not cyano). I've dosed a capful of each every 4-5 days, which seems to be plenty.
