John @ Marine Oasis sells "Crystal Sea" marine mix salt.I subscribe to the theory that the water exchange is the most important issue- and NOT the brand of salt.We drip, dump, diffuse, and add so many additives, buffers etc. that I know the only major difference in my system is just getting rid of the 'old' water.I can recommend this saltmix. It is especially attractive -as Instant Ocean has raised it's prices.

I switched to Crystal sea about month ago. I've also heard it is very comperable to reef crystals. It's also 39.95 for 150 gallons.
It works well for me!

OK....bursting a bubble here (I'm sure....).

$50 for 200 gallons is $0.25 a gallon.

$40 for 150 gallons is $0.2666 a gaoon.

So....the $50 for 200 is a better deal....

$0.01666 you say, right?

That would make the 150 gallon brand about $53.32 for 200 gallons.

Not a bargin to me....sorry.

I appreciate the thought though!

Reef Crystals run for $60.00 for 200 gal. thats 30 cents per gallon.

Well, technically, at NSW salt levels, we only get about 175 gals out of their "rated" 200, so none of them are "deals" LOL

BCooksey- Have I met you? We are practically neighbors, both being in the same town!

R.C.Steel still sells reef crystals for $49 per 200 gallon bucket. Just go to the desk and ask for it, they keep it in the warehouse, not in the pet supply aisles.

This thread is from one year ago. I knew the reefkeeping world might catch up someday!
BTW- a 150 gallon bucket of this mix makes 150 gallons of saltwater at NSW levels.

Is it a 150 or 200 gallon bucket? The RC buckets I buy are 200 gallon.

ri- This is an old thread of mine that I brought up regarding 'Crystal Sea' marine mix, in light of a recent article put out by Ron Shimek in the current issue of 'Reefkeeping' online magazine. The name of this salt mix is very similar to 'Reef Crystals'.
'Reef Crystals' is still sold in 200 gallon buckets, and 'Crystal Sea' marine mix is sold in 150 gallon buckets.
All prices regarding salt in this thread are dated.
