Congrats Morten - outstanding tank and beautiful fish!

The Acanthurus japonicus (Powder Brown) looks more like a Acanthurus leucosternon (Powder Blue)? That Gem Tang is amazing! Any issues with the Regal angel nipping on the SPS?

Thanks NexDog.
If you read the article and look at www.coralreef.no in my photogallery you will understand A.japonicus VS P.B.T.

No, I have not any problem with nipping on SPS from my Regals.

That's beautiful. What are the dimensions of your display tank? Does your flame angel nip your SPS and clam mantels? How about the regals? When did you introduce the flames and regals?

Is your tank really only a 90g? It looks so much larger.

Amazing! Very beautiful indeed. Unique shape too.

that's a great tank!

I'm shocked you run such a powerful skimmer on that tank.

Steve Weast runs that skimmer on a 1000 gallon system doesn't he? Your system is only 150 gallons or so? That must be some seriously clean water!

but I later changed to a Deltec AP902. Currently I am experimenting with a Deltec AP1004 in the setup. The tank has gotten better and better, with less algae and detritus.

so you're saying you actually notice a difference from upgrading from the 902 to a 1004? i would have thought the 902 would have gotten everything that's gettable on that size tank. or at least that's what i want to think because i'm picking up my 902 tomorrow :)

do you think the increase is from the bigger skimmer being able to dig deeper and get certain compounds out that the 902 couldn't physically get, or because of the higher turnover through it?

Incredible tank/set-up! That first pic is such an optical issusion for the tank to only be 90 gallons, it looks like its 4 feet tall!

For the record, I went from a 2x1260 skimmer to a 3x1260 skimmer on the same tank and did not notice a difference in skimming. The volume and consistancy of the skimmate never changed. I figured a 3x1260 was probably still better, as it might pull out organics "faster" if something died, but it didn't pull out "more". Possibly just quicker.

I have to read more on your system and more posts because you do an incredible job!

Fliger
01/05/2006, 02:46 PM
I did just think of something though - the 1260's on Deltec & H&S skimmers here in the US pull ~900LPH whereas I've read they are only about 600-650 in Europe. So maybe a third 1260 might make a difference? A 3x1260 setup there would be the same as a 2x1260 here. Probably a good question for Doug, I could be totally wrong.

How can you promote a tank that has a cleaner wrasse in it?
:( By making this the "Tank of the Month" I feel that you are supporting this kind of reckless collecting. These animals, as with so many more that are are kept in your tanks, belong in the OCEAN.

Hmmm, yes I have think about it, but you are looking at a "Reef Tank" so all kind of animals in my tank is from the OCEAN.
My cleaner wrasse have live in my tank for a year, eat well and have double the size in that time.

I must frag very often if I don''t will have some "battle". I have not time to take it everyday, but I check up every week so I don't lose any kind of SPS.

Some kind of acro don't "battle" at all so i don't need to frag them.

Hey koden.
Yes, I mean you can have a small tang in the tank. With small I mean about 2-3". Try with a Zebrasoma, they are not so active as Achanturus.
If you have good water quality and feed the tang often maybe you will have success with your tang.

I love the angels......you mentioned in the Reef Central article that you have experimented with many angels, sometimes at the expense of your corals. What other angels have you tried? Ever tried a blue-girdled (majestic) angelfish? How do they do with softies and clams? You really haven't had any problems with your clams and your regal angels? They really are the most beautiful fish.

Another angels, please look in the forum "reef fish" and "SPS keepers", all angels are various so there is not a standard solution.

I have very good experience with A.R.M., why change it out with another media I don't be familiar with at all?
Have you try Rowalith in you reactor? and if, what is your experience with Rowalith and SPS?
I am absolute willing to try new things.

PS: If you will visit Norway at this season, take with you a lot of clothing :)

GSchiemer
01/24/2006, 01:12 PM
IME, Rowalith is a superior media. It's the only media that fluidizes properly in the Deltec reactor. It also "dissolves" faster and at a higher pH than ARM or any other media that I've used to date. Try it once and you'll notice the difference.

Greg

Joao Cotter
01/24/2006, 01:38 PM
I've always used Rowalith C+ but I coudn't ever keep the inside water from running cloudy. This has always resulted in some white dust coming form the reactor, getting to the tank and, what I believe, to irritate the corals.
Some days ago I changed to ARM and the reactor has no more cloudiness. However, it is still early to make some conclusions about it's efectiveness.

My experience with fish is there is no solution answer.

Mine reads 57-ppm in and 0-ppm out. I change the IO filter with 1 or 2-ppm.
IMO: I don't think you need some pressure gauge. In my RO/IO from Kent it was standard from the manufacturer.

Hi Morten

I have your tank saved as my favorite and even after this time it is still my favorite, I just wanted to see if you had your new tank up and running? The tank has been an inspiration a tank to aspire to congratulations.

Nice to hear you have the tank saved to your favorite, we all need some inspiration in between.
I don't have any new tank yet.
Thanks.

Hi! It's amazing tank for me. I would like to ask some questions:
1) How much LR do you have in your tank?
2) I was amazed that you use 2 250W HQI+T5. Not too much ? Of course if corals grow up it means everything is ok but in Polish forums everybody says about 1W fo each 1L and your tank is much more above this border.

Thanks for the complement,

1) I have approximate 30-35 kg LR in this tank. The LR was really porous.

2) The rule of thumb is about 1w for each Liter, but I think I have more "intense" colour with more light over the tank. One more ting, I must have the two lamps to fill out with light in the corners and to the bottom of the tank. I also like to have light from more than one side of the corals. They will not have any "shade" and will look better from several sides.
If you have 2x250w MH and 4x24wT5 in a tank with this size, be carefully so you do not "toast and burn" the corals when you put them into the tank. Start to put them at the bottom in the tank for good acclimatization to strong light. Use some days, maybe weeks to move them up in the tank.
Different sort corals use different time to become acclimatized.

Good luck in Polen.

I have one more question. How do you move your corals in the bottom of tank. Are you diving or have 213mm height and very long hands :D
