Ok, I have a question about corals. Right now I have 15w of light on my tank (35 hex) that came with it. In the tank I have star polyps that are doing very well and surprisingly they are growing. I also have just counted tonight 37 fully open zoanthid button polyps. All under NO 15 watt's how crazy is that? My question is what types of corals can I keep with (1 65W bulb 12000K DAYLIGHT &1 65W antinic BULB) a total OF 130 watts of light? Money is tight and I dont know when I wil be able to get the light I really want and I know I have to get rid of this 15 watts of light.

I take it you are looking at Power compact Lunar 30" by coralife and I'm saying that because this is shorter than others that I'm aware of that length. I know current makes some too but not sure. The only thing is that I'm not aware of them making 12,000K bulbs. Again you might want to invest on a MH for almost the same price of that on hex tank and you might just be fine with one MH on that tank. Here is the tip on corals need is that they need proper spectrum and need good intensity for their photosynthetic action. Power compacts might have the proper spectrum but they miss the intensity for most of the corals that might need good intensity. I know that you will have good luck with VHO but is out of question for that size hex tank so MH will be the best. Now back to your question on what type of corals you can have under that light I would say mushrooms, leathers, sinularia, maybe LPS corals but I won't add too many of them at the same time and myabe you want to try a small frag of fragspawn first, and you might have good luck feather dusters and I'm saying that because I know some who have same type of lighting but not 12k on regular 30 gallon but in their case they are not as deep as your is too.

The light I was going to get is only 59 bucks used and thats about the most I can do for at least the next 2 months (no real income everything going out). Figured this 130 watt used fixture with 2 blue moon lights will do it untill I can get the MH set I really want (sunpod by current w/3 white moon leds and 3 blue moon leds and 175 watt MH) I would use a daylight bulb along with an actinic bulb. It would be placed not more than 3 inches from water surface (it has an acrylic lens protecting bulb encloser). I was thinking that if I place them high in the tank (the ones needing more light) that they would be ok. What do you think?

so is 10,000k and not 12,000k..?
for that prices is not bad and you also have to see how old the bulbs are. Sometimes it cost the same as buying the whole fixture than buying the bulbs (depend where you get them from).

Yeah I know. I have been checking the prices out. The bulbs are 2 months old.
