And I thought this was a monti cap. But looking at other pics, it looks like one of those Idaho Grape Monti Undata that goes for big bucks. Can you confirm?

I dont think the top one is a blue tort. I have a tort and it doesnt look the same.

The top pic is a. samoensis. (colored up nicely I might add, you are doing something right because that is a difficult coral)

The second is not m. capricornis...you are right about that.

It is a species of plate montipora, unidentified. I highly doubt it is undata. The grape undata you refer to may not even be a species of undata. Folks will put names with anything to enhance its salability. All this rare stuff we hear about really isn't rare at all...someone capitalized on marketing nicely colored corals from their tank...that's all. Look at how every m. danae is now superman or rainbow montipora. Buyer beware on "rare" corals.

Thanks Eric. Yup, that samoensis was poo brown when I got it. Now its purple with greenish tips. I just notice it the other day and realize how nice it has turned. I didnt think that the second was a cap. Either way, its really nice! Thanks Eric.

My piece of a. samoensis is purple with green tips as well. That piece you got from me was just lying in the sb I believe.
