First of all, I have to declare that I have no affiliation with That Fish Place.

I got a flyer from That Fish Place about their annual sale event which will take place on March 16 and 17.
What interests me from the flyer is that they will have a sale on Oceanic and Perfecto tanks.

The following is a small example of the sale...
Oceanic 58g $209.99
Oceanic 75g $269.99
Oceanic 110g $489.99
Oceanic 180g $764.99
Oceanic 85g HEX $454.99
Oceanic 175g Bowfront $1016.99
all the Oceanic tanks have glass canopy and strip lights(useless) coming with it.

For those of you who are/were in the market for tanks, you probably know that the price is
very reasonable for Oceanic. However, That Fish Place is located somewhere in Pennsylvania
so you have to have a truck in order to pick up the tank. In the flyer it also said that Julian Sprung
will head their seminar for Q&A. Furthermore, Bo Derek will be there as well.(what is she
going to do over there?)

Just thought you may be interested.

I have been thinking of a new larger tank. What is special about that Oceanic? Compared to the generic tanks that i was looking at in the usual pet stores that seems very expensive.

As an Oceanic 200g owner, I just can't say enough nice things about the tank. If you
ever have a chance to compare Oceanic tanks to other brand side by side you will be able
to tell the differences between the two. Furthermore, Oceanic tanks have glass support
across the top unlike most of other brand using plastic support, which is less robust. I
happen to think that Oceanic tanks use tougher glass than others. For instance, I
used to have an AGA 150g, and it had a lot of scratches insides after 4 years abuse. But
my 2 years old Oceanic hasn't had a single scratch.

Indeed, Oceanic tanks tend to be pricier, but they are worth the money.

Here's a link to That Fish Place. It's located in Lancaster, PA. Bo Derek has a line of pet shampoos, conditioners, etc. called Bless The Beasts (I've seen it in Petco) so that is the reason she will be there.

I don't know much about structural dynamics, but my intuition tells me that it's difficult
to cut a perfectly matched glass for center support of Bowfront tank. The radius of the cut
glass need to be very close to the radius of the bowfront. Otherwise, the pressure
on the different contact points of the cut glass will be uneven to cause eventual structural failure
then lead to the breakage of the center support.

I agree that AGA aquariums scratch easily I know that from personal and experience!! I would, however, like to hear feedback from hobbiests who have Perfecto brand aquariums and have had bad experiences wit them. IE: leaking, plastic centerbrace being inefficient, scratching easily, etc.

Thanks!

Wow, I never even saw this thread.
ScavDog and I hitched a ride with JAV and Mike Accardi down to this sale at That Pet Place. It was really cool.
ScavDog posted some pics on here.
We did meet Julian Sprung. We're going to try and get him as a guest speaker.

That Fish Place also had two of the new custom Oceanic
tanks on display.

These tanks have no center brace. For those with Oceanic
tanks, it can be a major pain to keep that center brace
clean. They have perimeter bracing made of approx. 4"
of glass all around the inside edge.

The tanks we saw were a 300 gallon and a 215 gallon.
They were awesome imho.
