I decided to make this because I have found quite a few people in the area who love doing this as much as my wife and I do.

If you are in the Okinawa area, please make a thread and tell us a little about yourself, and show everyone a few pics of your tank.

If you have any corals that have split or you would just like to do some trading post that up as well! Even if you are into a fish only tank, thats ok! Show us your tank to!

Lastly:
Spread the word! I am hoping the "fish lady" (Marine Lagoon) outside of gate 4 will allow my to put a flyer up on her board and I am also going to put a ad on japan-update.com and hopefully we will draw people into it.

THIS IS AN INFORMAL "CLUB" NOT ASSOCIATED ANY WAY WITH SOFA.
this is just a place to share info and general chit-chat about the hobby.

Hello, my name is Bret. I live down in Awase. Been on Oki for over 7 years now. Only got into saltwater tanks about a year ago. I picked up a 55 gal tank from Petbox and been working on it steadly since then. Had a few problems in the begining and have gone thru a few coral. Havnt lost any fish untill recently, lost a blenny and my 2 cleaner shrip. Think one of my crabs got hungry :(

I have 4 damsels, 1 blue tang and 1 blenny. have numerious hermit crabs and snails along with a couple emerald crabs and I might still have a pistol shrimp in there somewhere.

well here are a couple links to my tank. these pics were taken with a 8 mega pixel camera so there kinda big. If you have a slow connection it might take a bit. Also if anyone would like to see my tank and set up in person I'd be glad to show you. Just let me know.

I wish I can go to Okinawa, unfortunately, I will be Sapporo in December. From what I know from reading Japanese Marine Magazines, there is a magazine dedicated in collecting marine life from the shores.

Hey all i am here in Okinawa as well and looking for a good place to buy some soft and hard corals. I have tried the lagoon, the monkey store and pet box. Has anybody found some other stores around the island that sells salt water items.

Hey everyone. My name is Josh and I am just getting into this crazy hobby. I picked up a 55 gallon from the BX on Kadena and that is as far as I have gotten. I'm building a stand and trying to read as much as possible. If anyone has any tips on where to buy tank gear please drop me a line. I need it all! Take care and I'll see ya all soon.

P.S. I don't leave here until Aug. 2008 at the earliest so I'm gonna be around a while.

Well, I haven't been to Okinawa in 40 years, but seeing this forum brought back a lot of memories and I just had to post something.
My Dad was stationed there when I was a boy, and I actually started school on Kadena. We lived on the sea wall in Sanobi (sp?), and the ocean was just outside our back door. Fell in love with ocean life then, and still love it :)
Here's wishing all of you happy reefing!

You should come back and visit. From talking to a few friends...the Kadena area has done a night and day change over the past 10 years. I could only imagine what 40 years has done.
