I talekd with Jeff at PDC yesterday and he told that he and Tom are going to meet tomorrow to discuss somethings. Way it sounds to me it will benefit all OMS members. If you have not been to PDC you need to go and see all the things they have done. It was really busy while we were there, plus they have hired Dave from AP whichs gives them two of the best and world of knowlege when it comes to saltwater.

I would be interested in joining, but (no offense) I am not really into paying for a membership if nothing really happens. If things start to actually get going I am all for joining. I know there are enough people in the area to keep the activity level higher than it has been recently... I would also be more than willing to help out where/when needed, I also work at one of the LFS in Omaha and can use that as a resource in many ways when/if needed.

Just so it's clear to others, during this period of transition and inactivity of the OMS, no dues have been collected. I stopped collecting dues before stepping down to make sure those who paid got their years worth.

There are plenty of people in the area to keep the club going, the problem has been having one of them step up to lead the club. Thanks to Tom stepping up, things can get rolling again.

Chris got any drawings for my hood yet?

CH
11/04/2005, 05:28 PM
Sorry Bill, I have been busy and just haven't had much opportunity to work on it.
Here is a quick rendering of one of the concepts I came up with. It's a bit rough, but you get the general idea. I would need to work out a few things, but I think it's overall a good design. The two sides against the wall would be open, to allow some air movement. I haven't decided on the door yet, but this would be the easiest option, although it may be hard to put your arm in and do any work (I can't remember the size off the top of my head). However, it may be small and light enough to just remove the entire hood when you need to do any major work
Let me know what you think, or if you have any ideas or suggestions.

Ok, I will move forward with this basic design and get a price together. If this is definately a go, then I may need to come back over and grab a few more measurements, and snap a few pictures so I can match the existing look as close as possible.

Sorry, I haven't had an evening free yet this week to run to Lowe's. I plan to figure everything out this weekend, if that's ok?
Hopefully I will have a few drawings with me at the meeting, we'll see. Also, I need to put the lights in to make sure it works and see if I have to adjust it at all.

Willie41

Looks like it will be right at $100 with labor & materials, including hinges, stain for the oak, and paint for the interior. All visible surfaces will be oak, stained to match your existing stand. All interior surfaces, and surfaces that are not viewable, will be painted with a durable, white, semi-gloss paint (helps reflect some light)

I'd love to see pictures of this stand/hood after it's all done. I need to commission a stand/shroud for my 55 right now.

CH
11/14/2005, 11:50 AM
No problem. I also built a hood for my 75, which may be similar to what you are looking for. Here is a older picture. I didn't do this stand, but I certainly could.

http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/35591tank___stand.jpg

You'd be more than welcome if you ever wanted to stop by and take a look (I also built our entertainment center, so it's another example)

Wow, that's fantastic.

PM me a cost estimate on something like that.

Also, what engineering firm do you work for and what type of construction do you specialize in?

Willie41
11/14/2005, 01:36 PM
Go ahead with the hood please Chris.

Thanks
Bill

CH

I will try to get a cost together as soon as I can. Are you wanting a stand too? I will have to build in all in CAD so I can create a parts list, and then I go and price out all the materials, so it may be a week before I have something.
I work for The Schemmer Associates. We are an architectural/ engineering firm. We do a little bit of everything - commercial, govt., schools, industrial, swimming pools... You name it! Currently under construction, you can see a really neat project - Walnut Creek Amphitheater. Just south of Pappilion West H.S. off of 370.

Sounds good Bill. I may need to run by to verify my dimensions. Also, it looks like the light will fit, but it will be tight. I may want to get the light from you and get it mounted it in there, just so I can make sure it fits, and so I can have the support in the proper place. Not sure yet. Maybe I can just take a look at it too, when you get it.

Willie41

Just let me know how you want to do it.

Mercutio
11/14/2005, 07:54 PM
CH, I won't need the hood/stand before new years, possibly longer. I don't have the time to mess with my tank, and frankly, it's better than ever so I don't want to tweak it right now. I'm running it without a sump so I really don't want to have to change everything from one tank to the next.

Do you guys do work on apartments? I have a building I may need an architect AND engineer for.

CH
11/14/2005, 09:00 PM
Yeah, we have done apartment type of buildings (assisted living). As far as doing renovation work on one, it's certainly possible. I can get you some contact info if you want to talk to somebody about it.

As far as the stand and hood, that's fine. I will still try to get an estimate and some drawings together for you.

Willie41

Chris just let me know when your planning on coming by. You can call or write.

CH
11/21/2005, 10:05 AM
Ok, Bill. Sorry I didn't make it this weekend. I didn't realize we were going to have company all afternoon and evening on Saturday. Then Sunday we had a prior engagement most of the afternoon. I am trying to figure out it I can come by this week.
I know today and Tuesday are out, so maybe wednesday. Then with the holdiday, I won't be around much.
I honestly don't know how critical it is that I come by. I think the measurments I got last time are good, I just wanted to figure out the location of that filter you have hanging on the back. I will need to build around it, so it can stay right where it is. Maybe you can just tell me how long it is. I also just wanted to look at the stand, so I could match it the best I can, but if you have a picture, that might work too.

Willie41
11/21/2005, 03:50 PM
The filter is 10" wide. I will try to get pitcure of stand, if not I could stain it.

Willie41
11/21/2005, 05:19 PM
Chris send me your email address I have a picture I can send.
