I am thinking of starting a 12 gallon Nanocube and would like some assistance. From what I can tell the only other item I would need for operation would be a heater. As far as the internal items I would need salt, 10-12 lbs live rock, not sure the depth of the live-sand bed I need as I have seen some with an inch depth and some with a 4 inch depth. How do i determine the depth I would need? Do I need a skimmer or a powerhead? I also wonder about lighting requirements...liveaquaria.com has lighting requirements listed as low to moderate etc. How many watts per gallon is considered low, high? The NC I am looking at puts off 2 watts per gallon. Any input would be much appreciated!

You would only be able to keep some softies with the stock lighting. I'd suggest you upgrade the lighting, remove the bioballs in the back and replace the powerhead as i've heard its crap. The sandbed is all about your personal preference. I went with a 2-3 inch sandbed in my 29gal. Some ppl go no sand, some deep sandbed. If you keep up on water changes you won't need a skimmer. You might need an additional powerhead for water movement depending on what you want to keep.

you should get the delux model of the nano cube because the light is better. you shouldny need a powerhead but if you want you could put one in there.

Check out some of the threads already running the JBJ's with the "mods"..... Many of us are running with the stock lighting with great results..... LPS,Softies, shrooms and polyps.... Only thing you won't really be able to do is SPS... for that you'll need more flow and more lighting....

I've got an on-line diary in my thread on my 12gal JBJ and have posted pictures of the whole adventure to date....
