Well I got a great deal on a 10G tank/ wood stand for only $25. I was originally thinking of turning this tank into a convict breeding tank but FW gets boring kind of quick. So heres where the nano comes in. Right now I have a 65g running that started off as a 15g. Something about nanos is just addicting so I've decided to give it another try.

First question would be on lighting. If anyones ever seen those clip on lights and the 6500K spiral, energy saver, bulbs at Home depot. I was wondering if 4 of these, one on each corner of the tank, would be ok for lighting a softie tank. I've seen the color of the bulbs and they are crisp white. It'll cost about $30 for this light set up. What do you guys think? Does is sound feasible?

Thanks,
Kris

If your going to do that, if wont look very nice, i would build a canopy. You could always go with the coralife 96 watt for 87$ at innovativelights.com. I might be ordering one in a few days.

Henry thanks, I didn't even think of how it would look. That ideas a gonner. I think the 96 quad is sounding really good. Might take a little longer to get it but be well worth it.

I've got the 96w coralife fixture on my 10gal. My only issue with it at the moment is that the cooling fan tends to be a bit noisy. More noticeable than the Orbit 130w light I have on my 26gal.

Ok well I'm on my way to getting a pretty new 96 quad for the tank. :D Should have it by early next week and this weekend I'm picking up about 60lbs of rock that I'm going to split with a friend. I'll probably just use one piece for the 10g.

I was wondering if I would be able to keep montis and maybe some acros near the top of the tank?

I have a very small orange monti cap frag in my 10gal under the 96w coralife fixture. It's probably at about the midsection of the tank and seems to be happy with the lighting. It's only been in there a few weeks though, so we'll have to see how it does in terms of growth and health over the longer term. Sorry, no acros in mine though.

hi,

do you have some pic's???

????????????????
6500k why
6500k is a yellow light in yellow grows alge.
you need min. 10.000k at 150 watts
6500k is more for freshwater tanks.
you're corals are not growing very well at that light.

or is it in holland not that way as in the vs???

Dave, Thanks for the response. I'll try out a monti cap first. Most of the coral will be coming out of my existing overcrowded 65g.

Mr. sure, the 65K bulbs that I get actually burn in crisp white. I have one of these bulbs over my fuge. I'll get you pic later today. As for the lighting I managed to get my hands on a 96quad with mounting legs so that will be lighting the tank up.

As far as 6500k being too yellow, here's a picture of my old 10g tank with a dual-incandescent hood that used two 6500k 20w screw-in power compacts. It didn't look too yellow to me. Coincidently, this lighting setup is now my 10g refugium on my 20g reef. For $5/bulb, I was very happy with the light they provided. The PowerQuad is obviously a superior choice however.

LoL...very understandable. A 65K halide is probably really yellow and wouldn't be the best for viewing but is said to be the best for growth. Now this 65k bulbs burn in really nice IMO and not loving a lot of blue helps with it.

Pics are on the way. Not much right now, my mom said I could put a tank in the kitchen and I had to jump on the oppurtunity. So its just sand, the clown, and a lone hermit. Lone hermit because he decided to get in the biggest shell in my 65g and crawl around knocking things over with his big butt.

Just noticed it looks like you've got the same computer I do.

Thanks. I'm getting rock for the tank this Sunday and a light upgrade as well. Soon after I'll be getting a GBTA from a friend and once it settles in I'll place some mushrooms here and there and be set :D
